This week I had a sneak peak of Mariah Carey's new eight-part new E! Docu-Series Mariah's World ahead of its premiere on Monday.
It was, predictably, highly entertaining. I might just be addicted. And one could not get past Mariah's makeup, which I can confidently report, was dazzling.
The megastar's signature shimmery bronzed makeup, created by her makeup artist Kristopher Buckle, and featuring a layered smoky eye, intense blush and glossy nude lip, was picture-perfect in every frame, including a scene where she dived into the ocean from her super yacht fully clad in an evening gown. (Apparently she likes to go gown swimming on a regular basis. Uh-huh.)
As we all know, "Mimi" is no stranger to makeup. The "star-who-has-everything" already launched her All I Want Lipstick and on December 26 launches her own collaboration with M.A.C Cosmetics. I got my hands on this last night and am attempting to recreate the Carey look in the light of day.
For someone who is dedicated to going over the top on every occasion (she even wears diamonds in the bath) her makeup is a surprisingly neutral affair. Carey is always perfectly made up and she sticks to a palette of the smoky eye, blush and patent-perfect nude pink lips. She dials her makeup up or down (or rather her makeup artist does) depending on the intensity of the occasion.
She favours pinks, lots of gold and corals; with some deeper shades, and she loves a good smoky eye and a vibrant cheek.
La Carey is not a fan of mascara so likes to highlight her smoky eye makeup with lashings of single faux lashes. She finds them much more comfortable and natural looking than strip lashes.
The collection is great, whether you want to recreate MC's look in its entirety or just take some elements from it. There are five nudey lipsticks (just want all of them), five golden shimmery lip glosses (our favourite is Butterfly Bling), and lip pencils in Deep Brown and Peach.
The I'm That Chick You Like Eyeshadow Palette is another must-have with four supremely wearable shades, each with a hint of shimmer that you can layer up or down just like MC. This is a keeper with a gold, bronze, chocolate and cinnamon hues. The collection also includes two types of faux lashes.
For my day time look, I worked up a soft smoky eye in Can't Escape Me from the eyeshadow palette; applied a light dusting of You've Got Me Feeling Powder Blush and finished my look with Lipstick in Dahhlinggg!, of course.
The verdict: this pigment-rich collection is supremely wearable day or night, or submerged under water.
