Kedi, A Beautiful Documentary About the Highly Interactive Street Cats of Istanbul
Kedi is a beautifully shot full-length documentary that tells the long history regarding the beloved and highly interactive street cats of Istanbul, all of whom are as much a part of the city as the humans who live there. Kedi premieres in theaters February 10th, 2017.
Hundreds of thousands of Turkish cats roam the metropolis of Istanbul freely. For thousands of years they’ve wandered in and out of people’s lives, becoming an essential part of the communities that make the city so rich. Claiming no owners, the cats of Istanbul live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame –and they bring joy and purpose to those people they choose to adopt. In Istanbul, cats are the mirrors to the people, allowing them to reflect on their lives in ways nothing else could.
A Couple of Skittish Gibbons Are Completely Spooked by a Tiny Hedgehog in the Grass
While visiting a wildlife park, car enthusiast Tom Elliot captured the hilarious sight of two very skittish gibbons who were completely spooked by a tiny hedgehog who was innocently and half-heartedly trying to burrow into the long green grass. The first gibbon who approached ran off wildly and climb onto a high branch of a far-away tree, while the second braver gibbon got a little bit closer and didn’t run as far away.

Giant Murals With Hidden Photoluminescent Images That Brilliantly Appear In the Dark
Spanish visual artists María López and Javier de Riba of Reskate Arts&Crafts have created a limited mural series entitled “Harreman“, in which they “hide” a Photoluminescent inside another image that only becomes truly visible when the lights are out.
This project draws on reminiscence and the etymology of language, with an occasional nod to irony and showcases the use of photoluminescent paint, allowing multiple readings of the same work. Through the use of lights, the observer becomes an active participant; interacting with the work and creating its response to those actions. By these interventions in the public space the intention is to try to light up dark corners of cities, both installing new lights and encouraging citizens to interact with the wall, painting with light on it.

NERVANA, A Vagus Nerve Stimulating Headphone Set That Helps Achieve Relaxation and Better Focus
The NERVANA is a CES-award winning generator and headphone set that uses a gentle electrical current to stimulate the vagus nerve for greater relaxation, mood enhancement and focus while listening to music. The NERVANA Generator and Headphones Unit is currently available for purchase through the Laughing Squid store for $249.99 – 21% off the original retail price of $319.00.
Among other things, music aims to relax us, to help us unwind. But that’s not always possible given the stresses of day-to-day life. NERVANA, however, sends a gentle electrical wave through the left ear canal to stimulate the body’s Vagus nerve while you’re listening to music, eliciting a calm, relaxed, natural feeling. It’s more than just listening to your favorite music – NERVANA actually amplifies a wave of natural neurotransmitters that will help you focus and cut out distractions.

How the Natural Sound Effect of Acoustic Dispersion Is Used for the Iconic Blaster Sound in Star Wars
The NPR series Skunk Bear explained how the same acoustic dispersion that’s found in nature is the same effect that’s used for the familiar blaster sounds found in Star Wars films.
…acoustic dispersion. A single sound – like ice getting hit by a rock -is made up of vibrations of lots of different frequencies, There’s high frequencies And low frequencies And everything in between After the rock hits, those vibrations move outward through the ice But the higher frequency vibrations go faster than the lower frequency ones The more ice they travel through, the more spread out they get The high notes reach your ears first and then the low notes. Sound … familiar?
