Serbia (
i/ˈsɜːrbiə/, Serbian: Србија / Srbija, IPA: [sř̩bija]), officially the Republic of Serbia (Serbian: Република Србија / Republika Srbija), is a sovereign state situated at the crossroads between Central and Southeast Europe, covering the southern part of the Pannonian Plain and the central Balkans. Serbia is landlocked and borders Hungary to the north; Romania and Bulgaria to the east; Macedonia to the south; and Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro to the west; it also claims a border with Albania through the disputed territory of Kosovo. The capital of Serbia, Belgrade, is one of the largest cities in Southeast Europe. Serbia numbers around 7 million residents.
Following the Slavic migrations to the Balkans from the 6th century onwards, Serbs established several states in the early Middle Ages. The Serbian Kingdom obtained recognition by Rome and Constantinople in 1217; it reached its peak in 1346 as a relatively short-lived Serbian Empire. By the mid-16th century, the entire territory of modern-day Serbia was annexed by the Ottoman Empire, at times interrupted by the Habsburgs. In the early 19th century, the Serbian Revolution established the nation-state as the region's first constitutional monarchy, which subsequently expanded its territory. Following disastrous casualties in World War I, and subsequent unification of Habsburg crownland of Vojvodina with Serbia, the country co-founded Yugoslavia with other South Slavic peoples, which would exist in various political formations until the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s, which had devastating effects for the region. As a result, Serbia formed a union with Montenegro in 1992, which broke apart in 2006, when Serbia again became an independent country. In 2008 the parliament of Kosovo, Serbia's southern province with an Albanian ethnic majority, declared independence, with mixed responses from the international community.

Last year, international sanctions imposed on the government of President Slobodan Milosevic sparked hyperinflation. But this year Milosevic has ostracised the Bosnian Serbs and sporting, cultural and transportation ties with the rest of the world have been restored. At first glance Belgrade doesn't look like a country suffering international sanctions. Last winter the shops were empty, inflation was rampant and merchants simply shut down their businesses. Opposition nationalists say the president has betrayed his Serb brothers, but on the streets of Belgrade there is generally support for the stance.
``Yes, of course, because I think that without sanctions Milosevic would not be a president. Because at a time when he was down came sanctions. He used it to be a president because he say that all the world is against us but it's not true.''

Serbia: Health mediators for the Roma community
Many of Serbia's more than 100,000 Roma are not registered at birth, and a lack of personal documents bars them from most public services, from health care and education to social assistance and employment -- all of which contribute to the Roma's feelings of marginalization from mainstream Serbian life. The MDG-F's PBILD programme worked to create stronger, more integrated communities in Serbia, with greater prosperity and less discrepancies in wealth and employment between ethnic groups. In this initiative, health workers went house-to-house in Roma communities obtaining personal and health documents for hundreds of people, facilitating vaccinations and health check-ups for women and children, registering children in primary school and helping families choose doctors and gynecologists.

Pozdrav građanima Srbije!
Problem sa kojim se susrećemo u poslednjih 10 godina su nesavesni lekari, zbog kojih na stotine ljudi gubi živote u našoj zemlji. Ovakavi postupci ne mogu se opravdati ni na koji način.
Osim nestručnosti lekara, ovakve stvari neretko se dešavaju zbog ličnog interesa pojedinaca.
Pa tako lekari kradu novorođene bebe i prodaju ih bogatim pojedincima koji ne mogu da imaju svoju decu. Sa obrazloženjem biološkim roditeljima da je njihova beba umrla na porođaju, i da je bolnica zakonski u obavezi da tu bebu sahrani o svom trošku.
Odraslima se tokom rutinske operacije vade organi, zatim se njihovim porodicama, rodbini i prijateljima kaže da pacijent naprosto nije izdržao operaciju.
Zapitajte se da li je sve baš tako moralo da bude !?
Podsećamo da Srpska vlada, sudovi, mediji kao ni Ministarstvo Zdravlja ne pridaju veliki značaj ovakvim slučajevima.

Besides the pure incompetence of doctors, often these things happen due to intentional self-interest of individuals.
So doctors are stealing newborn babies and sell them to wealthy people who can not have their own children. The natural parents is explained that the baby died in childbirth and that the hospital is legally obligated to such babies buried.
Adults during surgical procedures can also take out bodies and then their family, relatives and friends to inform the patient simply did not survive the operation.
Ask yourself if everything is just so had to happen !?
Recalls that the Serbian government, lawyers, media and the Ministry of Health does not attach great importance to this issue.

I think anyone should visit Kenya and Tanzania at least once in their life) there is also bad experiences too.
I honestly wouldn't advice many westerners to visit the Middle East now, and if they go I would say take caution and limit your visit to Egypt :/
Do you think it would be the same for a middle easterner visiting Serbia? It's not like I will be showing my self or wearing weird clothes, just general feeling about Arabs in Serbia. I would appreciate your input. Thanks again for your time and effort.

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. Its name translates to White city. The city proper has a population of over 2 million people.
One of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, the Vinča culture, evolved within the Belgrade area in the 6th millennium BC. In antiquity, Thraco-Dacians inhabited the region, and after 279 BC Celts conquered the city, naming it Singidūn. It was conquered by the Romans during the reign of Augustus, and awarded city rights in the mid 2nd century. It was settled by the Slavs in the 520s, and changed hands several times between the Byzantine Empire, Frankish Empire, Bulgarian Empire and Kingdom of Hungary before it became the capital of Serbian King Stephen Dragutin (1282--1316). In 1521, Belgrade was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and became the seat of the Sanjak of Smederevo. It frequently passed from Ottoman to Habsburg rule, which saw the destruction of most of the city during the Austro-Ottoman wars. Belgrade was again named the capital of Serbia in 1841. Northern Belgrade remained the southernmost Habsburg post until 1918, when the city was reunited. As a strategic location, the city was battled over in 115 wars and razed to the ground 44 times. Belgrade was the capital of Yugoslavia (in various forms of governments) from its creation in 1918, to its final dissolution in 2006.
Belgrade has a special administrative status within Serbia and it is one of five statistical regions of Serbia. Its metropolitan territory is divided into 17 municipalities, each with its own local council. It covers 3.6% of Serbia's territory, and 22.5% of the country's population lives in the city. The city has been awarded many titles, and the nomination for European Capital of Culture 2020.

Extreme sports are available, such as bungee jumping, water skiing, and paintballing. There are numerous tracks on the island, where it is possible to ride a bike, go for a walk, or go jogging. Apart from Ada, Belgrade has total of 16 islands on the rivers, many still unused. Among them, the Great War Island at the confluence of Sava, stands out as an oasis of unshattered wildlife (especially birds). These areas, along with nearby Small War Island, are protected by the city's government as a nature preserve. Tourist income is annually around 800 million Euros. In 2012, Belgrade visited 976.674 registered tourists.From that number 771.299 were foreign. Also more than 100.000 tourists arrive by 850 river cruisers.
Belgrade has a reputation for offering a vibrant nightlife; many clubs that are open until dawn can be found throughout the city. The most recognizable nightlife features of Belgrade are the barges (splav), spread along the banks of the Sava and Danube Rivers.

Many weekend visitors—particularly from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia—prefer Belgrade nightlife to that of their own capitals, due to a perceived friendly atmosphere, great clubs and bars, cheap drinks, the lack of language difficulties, and the lack of restrictive night life regulation.
Famous alternative clubs include Akademija and the famed KST (Klub Studenata Tehnike), located in the basement of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Electrical Engineering. One of the most famous sites for alternative cultural happenings in the city is the SKC (Student Cultural Centre), located right across from Belgrade's highrise landmark, the Beograđanka. Concerts featuring famous local and foreign bands are often held at the center. SKC is also the site of various art exhibitions, as well as public debates and discussions.
Skadarlija, the city's old bohemian neighbourhood
A more traditional Serbian nightlife experience, accompanied by traditional music known as Starogradska (roughly translated as Old Town Music), typical of northern Serbia's urban environments, is most prominent in Skadarlija, the city's old bohemian neighborhood where the poets and artists of Belgrade gathered in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Skadar Street (the centre of Skadarlija) and the surrounding neighbourhood are lined with some of Belgrade's best and oldest traditional restaurants (called kafanas in Serbian), which date back to that period. At one end of the neighbourhood stands Belgrade's oldest beer brewery, founded in the first half of the 19th century. One of the city's oldest kafanas is the Znak pitanja.
The Times reported that Europe's best nightlife can be found in buzzing Belgrade. In the Lonely Planet "1000 Ultimate Experiences" guide of 2012, Belgrade was placed at the 1st spot among the top 10 party cities in the world.

The train arrived three hours late. And was pretty shabby too. Pretty shabby train, but we are here at least. It’s really warm outside, so we are going to find our hostel and check in, and rest for a bit. Good Morning from Belgrade! We are going to start the day here exactly the same way the locals do; with a traditional dish called Borek. What exactly is it? It’s a special type of pastry. We’ve arrived here in Belgrade, took an overnight train from Montenegro. The train arrived three hours late. And was pretty shabby too. Pretty shabby train, but we are here at least. It’s really warm outside, so we are going to find our hostel and check in, and rest for a bit. Good Morning from Belgrade! We are going to start the day here exactly the same way the locals do; with a traditional dish called Borek. What exactly is it? It’s a special type of pastry. You can have three different types of filling. So, you can have meat, plain, or cheese, and this is a plain one. Apparently you dip it in yogurt, and you just eat it like that. Let’s taste it. It’s a bit greasy. And, after this we’re going to explore the Kalemegdan Fortress.
That’s really nice. Thats really funny, we just arrived at this fortress and I thought this was public property, that this was a place that everyone could come visit, but we’ve been here for five minutes now and there has already been two security guards who have, there’s one guy who is right behind Sophia right now. I have no idea what they want, they tried to communicate with us, and I think they’re worried that we’re some kind of journalists. I don’t know what it is but they seem really cautious about us here with the camera. It’s kind of funny, it’s kind of random. I don’t know. Look at these amazing views! We are in the middle of Belgrade, we are in the center, and we are just surrounded by nature. I didn’t expect that when I thought of Belgrade. So cool. This is where the Sava and Danube rivers meet, or like a serving girl I meet in Montenegro said, “where they kiss.” I think it’s beautiful. Kalemegdan fortress park was, for many centuries, was Belgrade. It wasn’t until quite recently that they city expanded outside the city walls. Today, it is a popular place for locals to come, hang out, play chess, and relax.
Okay, that was just, crazy. We thought before, like we said, there was a few security guards that were snooping around behind us as we were filming. But, we carried on around the fortress, and there was another guy around the corner, and another guy, and about five guys in the space of a half an hour that were following us. And finally one guy came and talked to us like you saw. He thought we had some sort of gun. I don’t know what was going on. Yeah, something about the rig that he didn’t want us to have. So he made us take down all the camera gear and then there was this old lady behind us, and all I heard was “Why you bomb us, why you bomb us english, why you bomb us?” And, what the hell? We were just…Well, then I said that I wasn’t English, I was Swedish and they just changed completely, that woman and her friend. Suddenly they were friendly again. Being friendly, laughing, talking about Sweden and, it was so strange. Crazy experience, but now we have left the fortress and we are going to go The bohemian quarter.
This is a really cute bohemian quarter. So many cafes everywhere. Let’s go and have a coffee. I think this is one of the artists that used to hang out in this bohemian area, and he seems to have a lot of girls in his lap. He’s all worn down here. It’s comfy, a good place to sit. So we found this cute little cafe along the bohemian street surrounded by flower pots and a waterfall over there, and we have ordered Serbian coffee, and the waiter brought us these Serbian treats. For free! Yea, looks really good. This whole bohemian street is so cute; the cobblestones, the buildings, these cafes. It’s really beautiful I think. After coffee we are going to go walk down the main street, and maybe do some shopping as well. We are on the main shopping street and you’ll find shops selling everything here. At the moment, you also find cows. They’ve been painted by artists together with orphans. They look really cool I think. We’re sitting here in Belgrade, it’s called Cafe Question Mark, we’ve ordered a few local dishes. And some spritzer. It’s a perfect way to end the evening here in Belgrade. We’ll see you in Macedonia
