Night

Night or nighttime (sp. night-time or night time) is the period of time between the sunset and the sunrise when the Sun is below the horizon.

This occurs after dusk. The opposite of night is day (or "daytime" to distinguish it from "day" as used for a 24-hour period). The start and end points of time of a night vary based on factors such as season, latitude, longitude and timezone.

At any given time, one side of the planet Earth is bathed in light from the Sun (the daytime) and the other side of the Earth is in the shadow caused by the Earth blocking the light of the sun. This shadow is called the umbra. Natural illumination is still provided by a combination of moonlight, planetary light, starlight, diffuse zodiacal light, gegenschein, and airglow. In some circumstances, bioluminescence, aurorae, and lightning can provide some illumination. The glow provided by artificial illumination is sometimes referred to as light pollution because it can interfere with observational astronomy and ecosystems.

Night Time is the fifth studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke. It was released in March 1985, through record label E.G.

Release

Night Time was released in March 1985 by record label E.G. It was an international hit, reaching number 11 in the United Kingdom, number 8 in New Zealand and number 50 in Sweden.

The album was remastered and reissued in 2008, with nine bonus tracks. The bonus tracks include the non-album single "A New Day", three remixes and four tracks from a 1984 Kid Jensen BBC radio session.

Reception

In his retrospective review, Ned Raggett of AllMusic opines that the album finds the band's music "caught between their earlier aggression and a calmer, more immediately accessible approach. This turned out to be the band's Achilles heel in the end, with later albums in the '80s evidence that the group had turned into an unbelievably boring, generic modern rock band. At this point, however, the tension between the two sides had a perfect balance, and as a result, Night Time is arguably the quartet's freshest album since its debut, with a warm, anthemic quality now supplementing the blasting, driving approach that made the band's name". Adrian Begrand of PopMatters opined that, with the album, the band "perfected" their "balance between antagonism and accessibility" and that "the band are simply on fire on this record".

Zaytoven

Xavier Dotson, better known as Zaytoven, is an American disk jockey and record producer born in Germany. He was raised in San Francisco but later moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, he has worked with Gucci Mane extensively, contributing at least one song on every one of his albums, and doing many mixtapes with him. He has also worked with other notable Atlanta artists, such as Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, Gorilla Zoe, Young Jeezy, OJ Da Juiceman, Future, Doe B, Usher, Migos (for their Hot 100 hit "Versace"), and other non-Atlanta artists such as Nicki Minaj, producing hundreds of songs in total. He won a Grammy Award in 2011 for his contribution to Usher's Raymond vs. Raymond album, as a co-producer and writer for the single "Papers" along with Sean Garrett.

Computer Go

Computer Go is the field of artificial intelligence (AI) dedicated to creating a computer program that plays the traditional board game Go.

Performance

Go has long been considered a difficult challenge in the field of AI and is considerably more difficult to solve than chess. Mathematician I. J. Good wrote in 1965:

Early decades

The first Go program was written by Albert Lindsey Zobrist in 1968 as part of his thesis on pattern recognition. It introduced an Influence function to estimate territory and Zobrist hashing to detect ko.

In April 1981 Jonathan K Millen published an article in Byte discussing Wally, a Go program with a 15x15 board that fit within the KIM-1 microcomputer's 1K RAM.Bruce F. Webster published an article in the magazine in November 1984 discussing a Go program he had written for the Apple Macintosh, including the MacFORTH source.

In 1998, very strong players were able to beat computer programs while giving handicaps of 25–30 stones, an enormous handicap that few human players would ever take. There was a case in the 1994 World Computer Go Championship where the winning program, Go Intellect, lost all 3 games against the youth players while receiving a 15-stone handicap. In general, players who understood and exploited a program's weaknesses could win with much larger handicaps than typical players.

Yorkshire Radio Network

Not to be confused with Yorkshire Radio.

The Yorkshire Radio Network was a group of three radio stations which shared programmes in the evening and at weekends. YRN was made-up of Pennine Radio in Bradford, Viking Radio in Hull and Radio Hallam in Sheffield.

History

YRN was based in Sheffield at Radio Hallam , although all of the live programmes came from Studio 2 at Viking Radio in Hull .

The company came about when Radio Hallam merged with Pennine Radio and later took over Viking Radio in 1987 .

In 1989 all of the three radio stations medium wave frequencies were used to form a new service called Classic Gold. YRN was bought by the Metro Radio group and as Pennine was making a loss they decided to rename it. The Pulse of West Yorkshire was born , the station was later sold off.

For a while YRN used the overnight sustaining service "The Superstation" .

Programming

There was live networked programming across the stations each evening broadcast from Viking Radio's studio's at Commercial Road in Hull. The programmes would mostly start after 8pm weekdays and slightly earlier over weekends.
