How to get Marion Cotillard’s 40s-inspired eyebrows

They say eyes are windows to the soul, so perhaps eyebrows are the frame and Marion Cottilard has captured hearts and minds with her distinctive take on the 40s-inspired brow. Who could forget them in their starring role in Public Enemies with Johnny Depp?

And they are soon to have star billing alongside Brad Pitt in Allied this month.

To achieve brows like Marion's requires special attention. She starts with a brow powder (or you could use a matte eyeshadow) that matches her hair colour. Marion's arches are very defined and then fade out at the outer edge. If you don't have naturally defined arches and want to match her shape, try playing with a brow stencil and gently outline your brow in the shape of an arched stencil. Use an angled brush and brow powder to see if this distinctive arch works on your face shape before taking the plunge.

Here are some rules to follow to emulate the Marion-inspired brow:

• If you want to change your brow shape be sure to take a picture with you to a trusted brow shaper who will give guidance on how achievable this look is depending on your face shape.

•To help define brows wax and powder based products are easy to blend and create some extra volume.

• For more depth in your brows try Benefit's Gimme Brow, a brush-on, volumising fibre gel that sticks to your skin and brow hair to really beef things up.

• Marion's stylised brows work brilliantly for her but beware over plucking as once you've denuded your brows it's very hard to go back. If you do cross the line, brush your brows with an eyebrow brush (always in an upwards direction) and moisturise them. Also invest in a brow growth serum.

• After you have had your brows professionally (and sympathetically) shaped, then maintain them with a great set of Tweezeramnn tweezers remembering to follow the shape that has already been professionally set.

• For those with over-plucked or nearly nude brows try brow tattooing to create a defined bold brow shape. Again go with the best, as this is a yearly commitment that you don't want to get wrong.
