A 10-year-old boy found dead in a south-east Brisbane home had more than 200 bruises and marks on his body, including his genitals, a court has heard.
Curtis Powell was found dead in his aunt and uncle's Mackenzie home on July 20, 2015, by another family member.
Senior Queensland nurse Jodie Maree Powell's application for bail was rejected in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday, a week after a magistrate first refused to release her.
She and partner James Colin Burnham, 35, had been caring for their 10-year-old nephew for more than six years when he was found dead in their south-east Brisbane home on July 20, 2015.
They were appointed as carers by the Department of Child Safety.
Both are charged with manslaughter, child cruelty and interfering with a corpse.
Ms Powell is accused of manslaughter by failing to provide the necessities of life for Curtis.
The court heard allegations Curtis was found with bruising consistent with restraints being used and that he hadn't received any medical care since September 2010.
Justice John Bond noted it was alleged more than 200 bruises and marks had been found on the body and were "inconsistent with childhood misadventure".
Defence barrister Mal Harrison admitted the Crown case against his client was strong and accepted suggestions she could face more than eight years behind bars.
But he argued she wasn't an unacceptable risk of fleeing or interfering with other witnesses.
Mr Harrison said the case was not that his client had "gone out" and been violent against somebody but "an allegation where she has failed miserably in her duties as a carer".
Crown prosecutor Sarah Farnden put forward concerns the accused would attempt to interfere with witnesses.
The court heard Ms Powell had "pressured" her sister, Curtis's mother, to submit an affidavit of a certain form.
Justice Bond accepted the prosecution's submission, finding Ms Powell was an unacceptable risk of interfering with witnesses and remanding her in custody.
Mr Burnham is expected to apply for bail in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
