How to get your startup brand out there

Question: I’m starting a business with a small budget – what are your tips for getting my brand name out there?

Founder of leading PR and digital agency Spin&Co Sam Mangan says:

A lot of people think it takes a lot of money to do any type of marketing which isn’t the case. It’s certainly a matter of just getting out there and trying a few different things the cheapest options you have available to you are Facebook ads which are very cheap – you can set a budget and you can keep to that.

Just make sure you keep things in line with your brand – like make sure your targeting is correct, don’t be targeting the entire world or the entire country, pick the demographic likely to purchase your product and a geo location you’re happy with.

The other option of course is press because unless you have a publicity team or an agency working for you it is technically free so go out there and stalk down a journalist, get on a website, find their name and send them an email and tell them very succinctly why your product is the best or why it should receive coverage or why it is news worthy. Don’t send them a huge long talk on why you think it should be in there but really think about why someone would want to read about it and write that.
