NASHIK: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said the government was committed to take the Sarangkheda horse fair to a global platform.
"This 500-year-old fair remained ignored for so many years. But, now, we are committed to take it to a global platform. The fair should become a brand on the lines of Pushkar's camel fair," Fadnavis said after taking a round of the Asia's biggest horse fair.
"I am amazed to see so many horses and other animals and such a widespread fair. This event deserved to be in the top five national events," he said. Fadnavis is the first chief minister who visited the horse fair, 'Chetak Festival'.
He invited proposals to start a horse museum and research institute at Sarangkheda to highlight the historical and geographical importance of the place.
He honoured industrialists Subhash Runwal, Sarkarsaheb Rawal, Kishore Khabia and Tushar Deoras with 'Khandesh Ratna' awards instituted by the organisers of the festival from this year for achievers in North Maharashtra.
Fadnavis also launched a mobile application for Nandurbar district and a website of Nandurbar's tourism circuit.
Fadnavis was accompanied by tourism minister Jaikumar Rawal, Nandurbar MP Heena Gavit and others.
Meanwhile, the inheritors of two great warriors, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharana Pratap, attended the fair on Tuesday.
