Updated

A young girl is safe and sound with her family after she was caught up in a carjacking west of Brisbane.

A woman and her two daughters, 3 and 10, were waiting in a Laidley car park on Wednesday night when a man dragged the 41-year-old woman from the driver's seat by her hair.

The woman and child had been dragged from a 2013 black Ford Falcon sedan.

The mother was able to pull her 10-year-old from the black Ford Falcon sedan, but the man sped away with the younger girl still trapped in her car seat.

He stopped the car nearby and left the girl unharmed on the side of the road before damaging the front of the vehicle and dumping it on Oakleigh Colliery Road at Rosewood.

Police discovered the stolen sedan about 6am on Thursday morning.
