Monaro District officer Inspector Tony Hill said a woman who claimed to be Ms Gleeson had made contact with them since and she had been asked to attend the Queanbeyan police station to confirm her identity.

"We are hopeful she will come in and we can confirm it so she can move on," he said.

Inspector Hill said the initial concerns police had for the welfare of Ms Gleeson had eased considerably but they still needed confirmation from her that she was safe and well.

He thanked the community for pitching in with information to help locate the Queanbeyan mother-of-four and inspirational marathon runner.
