One of Perth's most popular beaches has been closed for the second time in four days due to a shark sighting.

The Westpac Lifesaving Helicopter reported the sighting off Trigg Beach at approximately 11:30am on Thursday morning.

The closure follows reports from Lifesavers of an unknown 3.1 metre shark spotted 150 metres off shore at 10.54am.

Lifesavers reported the shark was heading north.

Trigg Beach was also closed on December 18 after a three-metre tiger shark was spotted only 100 metres off nearby Scarborough Beach.

The beach will remain closed until Lifesavers advise otherwise, and theWestpac Lifesaving Helicopter has since done an aerial patrol of Trigg Beach with no further sighting.

Last week, a man was bitten on the ankle while free driving by what he believed to be a small shark at the beach. He was not able to identify size or species. This incident was reported to Water Police at 11.30am on December 15.

Sharksmart has urged beach-goers to report any sightings to the Water Police, and to take additional caution in the Blue Holes area at Trigg Beach.
