Flood Warning for the North Kimberley District

Flood Warning Number: 3

Significant stream rises and widespread flooding is expected in river
catchments in the North Kimberley district during Thursday into Friday.

A tropical low lies in the northeastern parts of the Kimberley and is forecast
to track southwestwards over the next few days.

Rainfall totals of over 200mm have been recorded over the past 48 hours in the
North Kimberley District.

Rainfall totals for the 48 hours to 9am Thursday include:
Theda 268mm
Doongan 205mm
Kalumburu 180mm

Further widespread rainfall of 50mm with possible isolated totals in excess of
100mm is forecast for the 24 hours to 9am Friday over the North Kimberley
catchments. Subsequent heavy rainfall is also expected in the days following
corresponding to the passage of the tropical low.

North Kimberley District:
Widespread flooding is expected in the following river catchments during
Thursday into Friday:
Pentecost River
Drysdale River
King Edward River

Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and
be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers
need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel
plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and
velocity.
