Update from Longuesse Prison, France.

One person was recently released and this is their statement:

‘There were many refugee people in prison; people who help their friends escape from the bad situation in France. They are not criminal people.

People have been waiting for a very long time for court. Some people have been waiting for over 7 months since their arrest; they have not been to court once.

The police collect evidence from peoples telephones; identifying where they have been. This is how most people end up in prison. There is no evidence against them.

Conditions inside are bad, there is never food to eat in the morning. Refugee people have no access to people outside, and no money.

Many people are Muslim, they are not given halal food, so people only eat bread. The conditions are very bad.

People are very angry. Many people have slit their wrists. The people who do get money sent to them don’t receive it, the guards take the money. After this happened to one person they tried to kill themselves…only this got them the money.

If you can’t speak French in the prison it is hard, you can’t work there. The officers are racist towards anyone who tries to speak English.’

No Borders. No prisons. Solidarity with all those detained .
