Guinea i/ˈɡɪni/, officially the Republic of Guinea (French: République de Guinée), is a country in West Africa. Formerly known as French Guinea (French: Guinée française), the modern country is sometimes referred to as Guinea-Conakry in order to distinguish it from other parts of the wider region of the same name, such as Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. Guinea has a population of 10.5 million and an area of 245,860 square kilometres (94,927 sq mi).
Guinea is a republic. The president is directly elected by the people and is head of state and head of government. The unicameral Guinean National Assembly is the legislative body of the country, and its members are also directly elected by the people. The judicial branch is led by the Guinea Supreme Court, the highest and final court of appeal in the country.
Guinea is a predominantly Islamic country, with Muslims representing 85 percent of the population. Guinea's people belong to twenty-four ethnic groups. French, the official language of Guinea, is the main language of communication in schools, in government administration, in the media, and among the country's security forces, but more than twenty-four indigenous languages are also spoken.
He said if the election commission is ready for the upcoming vote, there is no reason to delay it. His statement comes amid bloody clashes between rival parties which left at least 2 people dead, 20 others injured. Violence broke out in the capital, Conakry, as president’s supporters threw stone at opposition protestors. Also, the police fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, who set shops on fire. Conde’s challengers claim that more preparation is required for the election. Conde took the office in 2010 after a controversial vote. He is likely to win the new round of election. On October 2nd Guinea s leader who seized power in a coup in February 2009 said that elections will continue as planned even as his military junta prepared to bury 57 people who died when troops fired live ammunition into a pro-democracy rally. Captain Moussa Dadis Camara made the comment during celebrations marking Guinea s independence from France 51 years ago. Wearing a crisp military uniform Camara laid a wreath in memory of the victims of a massacre on September 28th.. Camara previously said he had no control over the troops - including his own presidential guard force - who committed the massacre in which 157 people were reportedly killed. On October 2nd he took the offensive saying opposition leaders were to blame for the protesters deaths because they had defied a ban and organise...

Guinea - Conakry harbour in Guinea has become a battle ground between two French companies It's not a huge hub as far as ports go, but even so 120,000 containers pass through each year. According to the 2014 Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI), many countries in central and western Africa are experiencing a stagnation or decline in the transformation of their market economies. In Guinea, which is largely reliant on fishing and agriculture to feed and employ the nation, the promise of democratization has been hampered by ethnic tensions and the postponement of fair elections. But that is not stifling initiative. Almost ten years ago, farmers from Samaya, west of the capital Conakry, got together to set up a cooperative. Today the organization has more than 200 members and counting. Forty new producers have applied to join since the start of the year, and the cooperative is now offering practical training on its plantations. More information: http://www.dw.de/program/glo...

If you've traveled in Peru long enough chances are you've had an opportunity to sample Ceviche, Pisco Sour and potentially Cuy. Cuy, also known as Guinea Pig, is a traditional highlands food of the Incas. This Andean entree tastes similar to chicken and/or rabbit and is typically prepared in numerous different ways. As a staple of Andean cuisine, the meat from the Cuy is high in protein and low in cholesterol. If you're looking to try it for the first time Cuzco is a great option. These are some really easy ways to keep an eye on your guinea pigs' health. Guinea Pigs are prone to a variety of illnesses and often do a very good job of hiding the fact they’re sick. Here are 5 simple ways you can keep an eye on their health and hopefully catch issues before they become serious. 1: Regular Weight Checks It’s a good idea to weigh your pigs at least once a week. Use a set of kitchen scales on a flat, hard surface with something to stand the piggies on. We used a bowl, some people suggest a tube, others just put a plastic container on top. Make sure you account for the weight of whatever you put the pigs in by either setting the weight to zero before putting the pigs in, or weighing the container and removing that number from the results. Slight changes in weight are fi...

If you've been paying attention to recent news, you might think that we're entering a time when leaps forward in health care only happen at great expense. That misses the point. It also, once again, confirms the incorrect impression that we can only make leaps through advances in technology. As I said in previous episodes, people are more important than technology. To illustrate this point, we'll discuss the guinea worm. This is adapted from a piece Aaron wrote for the NYT. "Yeah
Hey hey hey
No I'll never look back in anger
No I'll never find me an answer
You promised me, you'd keep in touch
I read your letter and it hurt me so much
I said I'd never, never be angry with you
I don't wanna feel like a stranger (no)
'Cos I'd rather stay out of danger
I read your letter so many times
I got your meaning between the lines
I said I'd never, never be angry with you
I must be strong so she won't know how much I miss her
I only hope as time goes on I'll forget her
My body's aching, can't sleep at night
I'm too exhausted to start a fight
And if I see her with another guy
I'll eat my heart out 'cos I love, love, love, love her
Come on baby, let's get together
I'll love you baby, I'll love you forever
I'm trying hard to stay away
What made you change, what did I say ?
Ooh I need your loving tonight
Ooh I need your loving
Ooh I need your loving
Ooh I need your loving babe tonight (Hit me)
Ooh I need your loving tonight
No I'll never look back in anger
No I'll never find me an answer
Gave me no warning, how could I guess
I'll have to learn to forgive and forget
Ooh I need your loving
Ooh I need your loving
