Do I think that publishing needs harsher critics? Yes, I do. I miss literary criticism which will show more competence, more enthusiasm and less apathy. I miss serious evaluation, an intellectual struggle, a dialogue, a polemics. In a word I miss a cultural context.

"And I loved comics as a kid, but I don't know if I necessarily loved them any more than all the other crap I was into -- you know, like movies and video games, toys and cartoons on Saturday morning. Around preadolescence, like junior high, I was really getting into the "collector" thing, and then that kind of dissipated by the time I got to high school because I wanted to pursue girls."
