Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio has announced that renewable energy rockstar Simon Corbell will take up a key role as Victoria’s first Renewable Energy Advocate at a community solar farm in Woodend today.
Friends of the Earth welcome the appointment, saying the Renewable Energy Advocate is a vital role and Corbell’s success negotiating the ACT’s 100% Renewable Energy Target shows he is more than up to the task.
“The appointment of Corbell, a key negotiator of the ACT’s successful 100% renewable energy target, as Victoria’s Renewable Energy Advocate sews the seeds for bipartisan support for the state’s ambitious and achievable Victorian Renewable Energy Targets,” said Pat Simons, Friends of the Earth’s renewable energy spokesperson.

The ACT’s 100% Renewable Energy Target has been embraced by all sides of politics, recently winning the backing of the Canberra Liberal Party.
“We expect the Matthew Guy Opposition will pay close attention to Simon Corbell’s advice on growing jobs and investment in renewables in Victoria.”
“All parties can support jobs and investment in wind and solar and the community would welcome the Opposition’s support for the Victorian Renewable Energy Targets” added Simons.

The establishment of a Renewable Energy Advocate is a vital move that will ensure transparency and accountability as the state meets the VRETs, and sends a strong signal to industry that Victoria is the place to be for renewable energy.
Friends of the Earth look forward to working with Simon Corbell as the state gets ready to meet the ambitious Victorian Renewable Energy Targets (VRETs) of 25% by 2020 and 40% by 2025.
