Le Monde (French pronunciation: [lə mɔ̃d]; English: The World) is a French daily evening newspaper founded by Hubert Beuve-Méry and continuously published in Paris since its first edition on 19 December 1944. It is one of the most important and widely respected newspapers in the world.
It is one of two French newspapers of record along with Le Figaro, and the main publication of La Vie-Le Monde Group. It reported an average circulation of 323,039 copies per issue in 2009, about 40,000 of which were sold abroad. It has had its own website since 19 December 1995, and is often the only French newspaper easily obtainable in non-French-speaking countries. It should not be confused with the monthly publication Le Monde diplomatique, of which Le Monde has 51% ownership, but which is editorially independent.
The paper's journalistic side has a collegial form of organization, in which most journalists are not only tenured, but financial stakeholders in the enterprise as well, and participate in the elections of upper management and senior executives. In the 1990s and 2000s, La Vie-Le Monde Group expanded under editor Jean-Marie Colombani with a number of acquisitions. However, its profitability was not sufficient to cover the large debt loads it took on to fund this expansion, and it sought new investors in 2010 to keep the company out of bankruptcy. In June 2010, investors Matthieu Pigasse, Pierre Bergé, and Xavier Niel acquired a controlling stake in the newspaper.
Matthieu Tota (born 26 September 1985), commonly known as M. Pokora or Matt Pokora, is a French singer and songwriter.
Matthieu Tota is the son of professional footballer André Tota and Brigitte Tota. His parents divorced in 1998 when he was 13 years old. As a child, he studied in an elementary school in Hohberg, and later at Collège Paul-Émile Victor in Mundolsheim, and Lycée Aristide Briand in Schiltigheim near Strasbourg. When he was younger, football was his first ambition and he wanted to become a professional player. However, he later opted for music.
Matthieu Tota explained the origin of his stage name Matt Pokora in an interview during the documentary Mise à jour broadcast on 26 August 2010 on NRJ 12 TV channel. He said he was searching for an artistic name and happened to be talking to his grandmother of Polish origin and the importance of humility came up. He asked her "how do we say 'humility' in Polish language," and she said "pokora". Tota immediately decided to adopt the word as his stage name, and shortened his first name to Matt.
Monde means "world" in French.
Monde or Le Monde may refer to:
A monde, meaning "world" in French, is an orb located near the top of a crown. Representing, as the name suggest, the world that the king rules. The only thing that can traditionally be placed above the monde is the Christian cross representing God.
It is the point at which a crown's half arches meet. It is usually topped off either with a national or religious symbol, for example a cross in Christian countries.
Monde was a weekly French international communist magazine. The magazine featured articles about international culture and politics. It was published in Paris, France, from 1928 until 1935, the year of the death of its founder, the writer Henri Barbusse.
The first issue of Monde appeared on 9 June 1928. The magazine was started as an alternative to mainstream communist publications in France. Henri Barbusse was the founder of the magazine which was published on a weekly basis. He also served as the director of the magazine. Augustin Habaru was the first editor-in-chief. The magazine had its headquarters in Paris.
Monde had an editorial board of which the members were elected by the stakeholders of the Societe Anonyme Monde. The magazine published some articles by George Orwell while he was living in Paris including his first article as a professional writer, "La Censure en Angleterre", which appeared on 6 October 1928.
Gas is one of the four fundamental states of matter (the others being solid, liquid, and plasma). A pure gas may be made up of individual atoms (e.g. a noble gas like neon), elemental molecules made from one type of atom (e.g. oxygen), or compound molecules made from a variety of atoms (e.g. carbon dioxide). A gas mixture would contain a variety of pure gases much like the air. What distinguishes a gas from liquids and solids is the vast separation of the individual gas particles. This separation usually makes a colorless gas invisible to the human observer. The interaction of gas particles in the presence of electric and gravitational fields are considered negligible as indicated by the constant velocity vectors in the image. One type of commonly known gas is steam.
The gaseous state of matter is found between the liquid and plasma states, the latter of which provides the upper temperature boundary for gases. Bounding the lower end of the temperature scale lie degenerative quantum gases which are gaining increasing attention. High-density atomic gases super cooled to incredibly low temperatures are classified by their statistical behavior as either a Bose gas or a Fermi gas. For a comprehensive listing of these exotic states of matter see list of states of matter.
Gas is a music project of Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961), a Cologne, Germany-based electronic musician. Voigt cites his youthful LSD experiences in the Königsforst, a German forest situated near his hometown of Köln, as the inspiration behind his work under the name Gas. He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa".
Voigt is known for his numerous, nearly inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases. Of these, his best known is arguably Gas, a project that saw the marriage of ambient music and 4/4 techno.
Other names under which Voigt has released music include, but are not limited to, All, Auftrieb, Brom, C.K. Decker, Centrifugal Force, Crocker, Dextro NRG, Dieter Gorny, Digital, Dom, Doppel, Filter, Freiland, Fuchsbau, Gelb, Grungerman, Kafkatrax, Love Inc., M:I:5, Mike Ink, Mint, Panthel, Popacid, Riss, RX7, Split Inc., Strass, Studio 1, Tal, Vinyl Countdown, W.V., Wassermann, and X-Lvis.
MOI J’AIMERAI BIEN ETRE UN PETIT GARCON
ET DÉCOUVRIR LE MONDE D’UNE AUTRE FACON
COURIR APRÈS TOI SON HESITATION
ET REGARDER LES VAGUES EFFACER TON PRÉNOM
JE SUIS VENU TE DIRE QUE JE M’EN VAIS
J’AIMERAI BIEN RESTER TRANQUIL
VOIR LES NUAGES ET LES ETOILES ET LE SOLEIL AUSSI
RECOUVRIR TES RÊVES D’OR ET D’ARGENT
CRIER BIEN FORT SANS DÉRANGER LES AUTRES
MOI J’AIMERAI BIEN ÊTRE UN PETIT CHIEN
OUVRIR LES YEUX CHAQUE MATIN
COURIR APRÈS TOI DANS UN BEAU JARDIN
NE PAS PENSER QU’IL Y A DES GENS MALADES AUTOUR DE TOI
JE SUIS VENU TE DIRE QUE JE M’EN VAIS
J’AIMERAI BIEN AVOIR LE POUVOIR
DE RESTER PRÈS DE TOI
SENTIR TES PENSÉES SANS TE REGARDER
ET DIRE AU MONDE QUE JE T’ADORE
J’AIMERAI BIEN RESTER TRANQUIL
VOIR LES NUAGES ET LES ETOILES ET LE SOLEIL AUSSI
RECOUVRIR TES RÊVES D’OR ET D’ARGENT
CRIER BIEN FORT SANS DÉRANGER LES AUTRES
