Sir Michael Parkinson, CBE (born 28 March 1935) is an English broadcaster, journalist and author. He is best known for presenting his long-running television talk show, Parkinson, from 1971 to 1982 and from 1998 to 2007, as well as other talk shows and programmes both in the UK and internationally. He is also known as a radio broadcaster. He has been described by The Guardian as "the great British talkshow host".
Parkinson, or "Parky" as he is known, was born in the village of Cudworth, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The son of a miner, he was educated at Barnsley Grammar School and passed two O-Levels: in Art and English Language. In later years he would often say that he positively "hated" being at school. He was a club cricketer, and both he and his opening partner at Barnsley Cricket Club, Dickie Bird, had trials for Yorkshire together with Geoffrey Boycott. He once kept Boycott out of the Barnsley Cricket team by scoring a century and 50 in two successive matches.

The story follows their distinctly different personal styles on and off the track, their loves and the astonishing 1976 season in which both drivers were willing to risk everything to become world champion in a sport with no margin for error: if you make a mistake, you die.

Remember this one? It is THE interview everyone was talking about. Michael Parkinson talks to Meg Ryan and it's really awkward, but was it her being difficult? What's your opinion? Free video clip from the popular british talk show 'Parkinson'.

Michael Parkinson interviews American actor Jimmy Stewart. He talks about his films and working with Frank Capra and John Ford. Excerpt from "A wonderful life". His wife Gloria joins him later on the set. Sorry, the first minutes are missing (Season 2, Episode 37 / march 17, 1973).
Woody Allen on Parkinson, 1999.
Please note this clip is in MONO due to the way it was transferred from VHS. If you can't hear anything, you need to try a different browser, or reconfigure audio settings, so I'm told. Sorry for any inconvenience. In the 1990s Michael Parkinson looked back at different guests from his program over the years, and chose his favourite sections of the relevant interviews. In this episode, he presents the best of Tommy Cooper and Frankie Howerd.
The late, great Robin Williams talks about air travel at the start of the post 9/11 era, early comic influences and his (then) upcoming movie "One Hour Photo". You can view the second part of this programme (where Robin is joined by Stephen Fry) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39ya2Drpj3s, on palimpsest2011's channel. RIP ... you wonderful, wonderful funny man.
Michael Parkinson looks back at his unique interview with talented and troubled film star Richard Burton. Back in 1974, Burton was battling against alcoholism and had spent six weeks in hospital for treatment prior to the interview. Parkinson persuaded him to talk candidly about his career, love life and drink problems.
Oliver Reed is now best remembered for the chat show appearances where he turned up apparently 18 sheets to the wind and made an arse of himself. It was not always so. When sober, he was a dream guest. Lucid, interesting, thoughtful, funny and a fund of superb anecdotes. Here he is in 1973, with Parky, Dame Isobel Barnett, and Mickey & Sherri Spillane. Remember him THIS way.
Talk with Michael Parkinson and as second guest Tom Hanks. Bowie performs "Everyone says "HI"" from the album "Heathen" and "Life on Mars" in the show. About the song "Life on Mars" and the link to Frank Sinatra: When released as a single in 1973, it reached number three in the UK and stayed on the chart for thirteen weeks. In 2015 Neil McCormick, chief rock music critic of "The Daily Telegraph", ranked it as number one in his "100 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. In 1968 Bowie wrote the lyrics "Even a Fool Learns to Love", set to the music of a 1967 French song "Comme d'habitude", composed by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Bowie's version was never released, but Paul Anka bought the rights to the original French version, and rewrote it into "My Way", the song made famous by Frank Si...
