Heidi (pronounced [ˈhaɪdi]) is a work of children's fiction published in 1881 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, originally published in two parts as Heidi's years of learning and travel (German: Heidis Lehr- und Wanderjahre) and Heidi makes use of what she has learned. (German: Heidi kann brauchen, was es gelernt hat) It is a novel about the events in the life of a young girl in her grandfather's care, in the Swiss Alps. It was written as a book "for children and those who love children" (as quoted from its subtitle).
Heidi is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature.
Heidi is a girl who has been raised by her aunt Detie in Maienfeld, Switzerland after the early deaths of her parents, Tobias and Adelheid (Detie's sister and brother-in-law). Detie brings 6-year-old Heidi to her paternal grandfather's house, up the mountain from Dörfli. He has been at odds with the villagers and embittered against God for years and lives in seclusion on the alm. This has earned him the nickname Alm-Uncle. He briefly resents Heidi's arrival, but the girl's evident intelligence and cheerful yet unaffected demeanor soon earn his genuine, if reserved, affection. Heidi enthusiastically befriends her new neighbors, young Peter the goatherd, his mother, Bridget, and his blind maternal grandmother, who is "Grannie" to everyone. With each season that passes, the mountaintop inhabitants grow more attached to Heidi.

http://mattmunisteri.com/ In 2002 my band Brock Mumford journeyed up the Hudson River to tape the show Poughkeepsie Live. Raj, Heidi, and all the folks at the show were great to us - look, they even made us a "Louisiana Hayride" set! We were thrilled. The band features Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, the Will Holshouser on accordion, Danton Boller on bass, and Quincy Davis on drums. Very bad dudes, all. I got this tune off of a very beat up "red clay" 78 record by Willard Robison, and what I couldn't transcribe, I assigned harmonies that I liked. Well, OK, I did that even to parts that I could transcribe. It's more funnerer that way.
In November 2009 Washington voters approved Referendum 71, a measure that allows same-sex couples and unmarried opposite-sex seniors to access many of the rights and protections granted to married couples. This was a video created by the ACLU's LGBT Project for the Approve Referendum 71 campaign. Edited for the ACLU by Anna Mumford.
