Turn On the Bright Lights is the debut studio album by the American rock band Interpol, released in August 2002. The album was recorded in November 2001 at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut, and was co-produced, mixed and engineered by Peter Katis and Gareth Jones. It was released on August 19, 2002 in the United Kingdom and August 20 in the United States, through independent record label Matador Records. Upon release, the record peaked at number 101 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number 158 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, as well as spending 73 weeks in the Billboard Independent Albums, peaking at number five.
"PDA", "NYC", "Obstacle 1" and "Say Hello to the Angels" were the singles from Turn On the Bright Lights, and a video was shot for each with the exception of "Say Hello to the Angels".
The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 29, 2011 for shipments of 500,000 copies.
A remastered version of the album was released in 2012 to commemorate its tenth anniversary. It featured additional material including demo recordings of several tracks, the bonus songs previously available on international releases and a DVD of live performances and music videos.

My review of Interpol's debut album from 2002 "Turn On The Bright Lights". It's a very dark album that reminds me of a city at night. Very textured guitars and strong bass riffs and drumming. A great standard to compare other records to. 8/10

It's a lot like falling, taking that first step onto the street The whole night before you, spreading out like a techno colored dream So take this city into your arms and hold it like a kiss Don't it feel like flying, darlin', what could be better than this? Turn up the bright lights Light up the world tonight Shine like a star, shine above and sail away Turn up the bright lights On a Paris morning Long before the sun would dare to rise Walking on the river, reflecting diamonds in your eyes So take this city and catch your breath and listen to her song Cause she moves like music, darlin', but in a moment she'll be gone Turn up the bright lights Light up the world tonight Shine like a star, shine above and sail away Turn on the mystery, there's no other place to be ...

You're really quite a beauty
And it seemed strange to me
That you weren't dancing before
Ouch! Wait a minute I'm beginning to see
And the reason is making me sore
Oh I think the beat's just right
And I'd like to dance all night
But I gotta find my seat * But I gotta quit my sweet
'Cause you're dancin' on my feet
Well I've got to admit it
You made me mighty glad
When I asked you to dance and you agreed
But I've got a question if it won't make you mad
Honey do you always have to lead * Honey do you really
have to lead
Oh I think the beat's just right
And I'd like to dance all night
But I gotta find my seat * But I gotta quit my sweet
'Cause you're dancin' on my feet
I'd like another dance dear
But I gotta get a rest
'Cause the way you dance is fit to kill
But before I leave you could I have your address
So I'll know where to send the doctor bill
Oh I think the beat's just right
And I'd like to dance all night
But I gotta find my seat * But I gotta quit my sweet
'Cause you're dancin' on my feet
Ouch! You're dancin' on my feet
Oh! You're dancin' on my feet...
'Cause you're dancin' on my feet
