Boarding School: In the Eye of the Beholder

My senior Capstone project, complete. I’m sure you are familiar with the Idiom "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" The thing being observed is not beautiful per se, but rather that the beauty in anything is supplied by the eye of the observer. The same can be said of most things, including boarding school. Having gone to boarding school for my high school career, I was of course familiar with the experience i had there, in addition to those of my friends. I knew all about Kent, and from my search, I knew about all the different types of boarding schools, locations, academic, athletic and social offerings. When I got to Lafayette, I quickly learned that many people knew nothing about it. Once I thought about it, I realized that I couldn’t blame them because there isn’t much media available about boarding schools. The only pieces that exist (that even attempt to be accurate) are those that each school puts out as information for interested families (pamphlets, mini videos on their website, etc.,). As a result, people unfamiliar with the boarding school experience on a personal level, believe the way media portrays the experience, as truth. They are prone to believe the stereotypes that the media conveys for sheer lack-of-knowledge that it’s anything different. We’ve heard them before; kids get “sent away” to boarding school, their parents couldn't control them as children, they do lots of drugs because they can get away with it, they are bad children, etc,. I guarantee there are kids who have attended boarding school because their parents didn’t have time for them, some who do drugs too, everyone has their own circumstance but there is no normal or typical boarding school experience As every individual is different so is there time there. This documentary informs, it’s a compilation of interviews of various current and alumni students. International students, day students, athletic recruits, musicians, actors, leaders, academics and more. It provides (what I hope is) an entertaining experience for all of you.
