Nobody lives there, only birds and yet ....You will not believe your eyes!!!!!!!

Bird Island is a small coral cay island, situated on the farthest northern end of the Seychelles. The beauty of its deserted beaches is beyond anybody’s imagination, but as the name implies, the island is paradise to a variety of innumerable birds, among which white fairy terns and black noddy terns keep flying around you all through the day. At the foot of many cedar trees, you will find nests of the beautiful white-tailed tropical birds, not at all scared of human beings peeping inside. But the most spectacular sight on this island is the colony of millions of sooty terns, covering the northern end open grass land during the nesting season from May to September, with their thundering chirping noises.
On the ground roam the giant tortoises who will lift their heads for you to caress their chins. The beautiful lagoon on the east side is home to many sea turtles who seem very happy to welcome you to their world. The island’s beach accommodates hundreds of their nests each year.
This video is a collection of souvenirs of my stay in May 2015 (except for the recording of the sooty tern colony which is from my previous stay in May 2013).

Bird Island, perched on the edge of the Seychelles continental shelf is the most northerly island of the Seychelles Archipelago and is situated 60 miles from the main island of Mahé.
A 30 minute flight from Mahé by light aircraft gives the first stunning impressions of this tiny 170 acre coral cay. Shades of turquoise and blue warm Indian Ocean which define the reef and continental shelf contrast vividly with the 5km of soft, white sand and tropical green island vegetation. The sight for the first time visitor is never to be forgotten and the return visitor eagerly awaits that memory.
The east and south sides are surrounded by a protective barrier reef which is home to many varieties of colourful tropical fish and the rest is an open beach which offers superb safe swimming.

Measuring just 20 acres (81,000 m2), smaller than most city parks, it is the only place on Earth where you can see an Antiguan racer (Alsophis antiguae) in the wild. The entire world population of this snake lives on the island. Named by sailors who were amazed at the number of birds that they found living and nesting there, Great Bird Island is a miniature paradise. As well as being the last refuge of the Antiguan racer, it is also home to a variety of other endangered creatures including the rare lizard Ameiva griswoldi, brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis), West Indian whistling ducks and red-billed tropicbirds (Phaethon aethereus). Luckily for the snake, there are no mongooses on the island, although hundreds of black rats lived there until recently. The island is currently privately owned by an American businessman.
Approach the island in good lighting as the area is maze of shallow reefs.

A nationwide survey by the RSPB shows the UK population of the cirl bunting - a small, finch-like bird - has reached 1,078 pairs after numbering just 118 in 1989 ...
