It’s been a great 15 years in Australia for me and the family, so we will be leaving lots of friends and colleagues behind as we seek new adventures in London, where from next week onwards I will be part of a Wellbeing centre, pretty much the same topic as the Australian Research Council has been generously funding me to look at for the last 3 years. |

How much battery storage is needed for a grid relying on wind and solar for nearly all its electricity needs? Not as much as many think, and a CSIRO study says much of it will be provided by households installing battery storage to help reduce their bills. |

Australia’s GDP went backwards 0.5% in the last quarter. Prepare for an onslaught of propaganda and action about cutting back spending on poor people, workers etc etc. The problem, as I tried to argue in this article in Independent Australia, is not policies per se, but capitalism itself. As Marx argued, there is a systemic tendency in capitalism for the rate of profit to fall. |

I oppose a price on carbon that is borne by the working class. Make the bosses pay for their pollution. And this is what a carbon tax, an emissions trading scheme and anything in between like an emissions intensity scheme, do. Price solutions are classic free market ideology. This is true even if the price setter is the government directly or indirectly. You could of course tax the polluters and exercise price control powers to stop them passing on the cost to workers. |

Long before we have fully autonomous cars – ones in which we can kick back and catch up on Westworld as our faithful robot delivers us safely to work – we'll live in a world of shared responsibility. Tesla Autopilot and other upcoming advanced semi-autonomous systems require the driver to stay alert, should a situation arise in which humans need to step in and take the wheel. |

Obi is looking fly in his custom eyewear. The orange safety goggles, adorned with tiny reflectors, fit securely over his little feathered head. But Obi the parrotlet isn't wearing these goggles to make a fashion statement. He's part of an experiment where he flies through a sheet of lasers so that researchers can see how the air around him behaves as he moves. |

The Iraq Inquiry Report (2009-2016) documents how Tony Blair committed Great Britain to war early in 2002, lying to the United Nations, to Parliament, and to the British people, in order to follow George Bush, who had planned an aggression on Iraq well before September 2001. Australian Prime Minister John Howard conspired with both reckless… The post Bush, Blair and Howard – Three reckless adventurers in Iraq (Part 17) appeared first on The AIM Network. |

By Kerry Fressard In the wake of two days of non-violent peaceful protest at Parliament, some sensationalist and hyperbolic media outlets have failed to address the issue behind the protests.
