One Nation candidate Andy Semple withdraws in Currumbin

One Nation candidate Andy Semple has withdrawn his candidacy for the Queensland state election just one day after it was announced.

Mr Semple, who was among 36 candidates announced by Pauline Hanson on Sunday, tweeted late on Monday night that he had withdrawn from the race.

He was due to stand in the seat of Currumbin, currently held by the LNP's Jann Stuckey.

On social media, Mr Semple accused One Nation of only liking "certain types of freedom of expression".

Attempts were made on Tuesday morning to contact Mr Semple for comment.

Mr Semple is a prolific tweeter, previously expressing his views on a range of topics, including: "vegans are miserable people".

Another tweet reads: "If Australians are expected to not wear a balaclava in banks or courts why are some citizens permitted to cover their faces in a burka?"

A tweet on December 8 says: "Muslims need to understand they need to assimilate and not colonize."

He also said he was standing because he had "seen and had enough of establishment politics in Queensland".

"Both the major parties have failed our state," he said.

Earlier on Monday, Mr Semple said he fully supported One Nation's immigration policy.

Mr Semple's withdrawal comes after West Australian Senator Rod Culleton resigned from the party on Sunday night.
