JHR has worked in the DR Congo since 2007, building media partnerships, journalists' skills, and supporting human rights journalism across the vast country.
Our media trainers work everyday to educate and inform local journalists on basic human rights reporting skills. These notes from the field give you some insight into the work that we do on the ground.
From 2010-2012 Canadian journalism students travelled to Ghana to work with JHR's staff and to explore the country's unique land, life, and culture. Working at Kapital Radio, a local radio station in Kumasi, our university media interns learned the ins and outs of what it's like to work in the industry.
JHR partnered with the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation and the Tyee to profile innovative programs for Aboriginal youth in Canada.
A series of video and text stories profiling innovative, collaborative experiments in youth empowerment that are delivering concrete results for Aboriginal communities. Commissioned by The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation of Montreal, these stories were produced by a talented team of journalists, most of them indigenous. The Leading Together stories were assembled and edited by Journalists for Human Rights and Tyee Solutions Society, and are co-published by the Aboriginal owned Wawatay Native Communications Society, www.wawataynews.ca as well as on the websites of Journalists for Human Rights, www.jhr.ca and The Tyee www.thetyee.ca.
