The Ultra 5 "House Of Fun" 1992

Garage Psych band from New York City, NY, USA formed in the 80's.The Ultra 5 are another NEW YORK band that ain't about to get stuck in that shagged out sixties rut. Their brew consists of five ingredients, that's three girls a guy and somethin' otherworldly that straps itself on soon as the other parts reach room temperature. So we'll introduce them without further ado. There's BOB URH on lead fuzz and vocals, ARIANE ROOT - Vox super continental, backup vocals and tambourine, TARA McMUNN - bass and backup vocals, and JOANNA KEREW on drums. THE ULTRA 5 are plugged direct into the mains of a lumbering fuzz drenched teenage monster that's intent on violating all that's in its path. Murkier than the mk1 Fuzztones, but somewhat related in the way that the jump started primordial ooze bonds to envelope its prey. The 5's first forty-five 'ITS ALONG WAY HOME' is already riveted to the hearts and what's left of the minds of the garage mafia throughout this monoxide-addled universe. There's a little somethin' extra in this here soup - that magic fifth ingredient that kicks the whole mess into touch and drags you screaming through the swamp." - NEXT BIG THING magazine, UK

Band Members:
Bob Urh (LeadVocal, Guitars), Ariane Root (Organ, Vocals, Percussion), Tara McMunn (Bass, Vocals), John Chua (Bass), Drummers: Greg Clarke, Piki Soul, Ellen Oneil (RIP), Bob Osuna, Ken Anderson, Wayne Diaz, Joanna Kerew, Frankie Rock (RIP)

NoMeansNo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomeansno)
was one of longstanding and interesting canadian hc band that have announced their official retiment in 2016 after a 31 year long career. Driven by creative forces of Brother Rob Wright (Bass and Guitar) and John Wright (Drums) they are characterized by highly rhythmic sound lead by Bass and the the Drums. For some journalist that is due to the facts that at the beginning the band performs simply as Bass+Drum duo and that lead them to experiment way of play very different from the other Hc band of the age based on incorporation of different elements take from jazz funky etc.
Unfortunely (or luckily depend by the point of view and musical taste) i've only two cd by them to share having lost some of their first albums (ì have as mp3 not as psychal cd my last share come quite all from my cd box).

Brutal basement, excecutioner styled, dark songs from a dark place. Incredible and mysterious, not surprising for a group named after Britain's most infamously inept (or sadistic) hangman.

THE MIDWAYS

Wylde 60’s garage-rock with loads of fuzz & farfisa

Midways - Pay More And Get A Good Seat (2003)

The Midways are 4-piece out of Toronto that finally get it. They love ‘60s garage-rock with a hint of surf, rockabilly & aggressive R&B, and from the opening Farfisa organ burst of opener “Find Another Girl” to the closing Farfisa organ burst of “Last Night,” they concern themselves with one thing and one thing only: channeling the music they love in a strictly felicitous style without any presumptuous “we can make this better with an original twist!” bullshit.
Produced by the Fembot’s Dave Mackinnon & Brian Poirier, Pay More and Get a Good Seat covers a few of their favorites along the way (including a great cover of Larry & the Bluenotes’s “Night of the Phantom” – and, like true geeks, they’ve reverted it to the original lyrics and title, “Night of the Sadist”... but you’d have a hard time really distinguishing the feel of their covers from their own parasitic 3 chord rave-ups.
Their attention to detail falters in the same way as many of the records they’ve idolized; you could really hit random and thoroughly enjoy any track that comes up, but after 15 minutes the monotony of the dense arrangements & homogenous hooks renders the whole of the album like 12 slight variations of the same basic track. Even lyrically the subject only really changes during the covers (making “Dish Rag” even more of a clever & startling inclusion). But it’s a contagious and familiar basic track they use, and even during its weaker moments-the underwhelming “Yea!Yea!Yea!,” for example, which lacks the intensity of highlights “A Lot Like Me,” “Don’t You Know,” “Last Night” & “Hurt On You” – the Midways sound like they’re having the time of their lives, which is often just as infectious as the music itself.
Their goal on ‘Pay More’ is unmistakably clear and by any measure, they’re wildly successful – thankfully avoiding the temptation to fuck it all up in an attempt to prove their worth as something other than a ‘60s garage/surf throw-back armed with the youth, passion & energy it demands. Frankly, this’ll do just fine.
Scott Reid (www.cokemachineglow.com)

"Pebbles"-Jünger und "Back from the grave"-Fanatiker sollten sich diesen Namen unbedingt in ihr kleines rotes Buch schreiben.

THE MIDWAYS Part 2

Midways - Manners, Manners (Screaming Apple Records 2007) @320

Gereon Helmer (http://www.ox-fanzine.de)

Sit up straight and look at me when I'm talkin' to you cause you're about to learn a hard lesson in etiquette from THE MIDWAYS: ladies and gents, may we present 13 raw tracks of pure 60's garage-punk mayhem on 'Manners, Manners', an album that'll send you back to charm class for carpet training! These Canucky no-goodniks busted out in 2003 with the CD 'Pay More And Get A Good Seat', followed soon afterwards by a split 7' with their Ottawa cronies The Glads. The cancer spread like a sorority-house rumour through the international garagenoscenti grapevine (with the help of fanzines and limited CD comps), and now Screaming Apple unleashes the MIDWAYS' second album masterstroke just when the world could use a good lesson-via-asswhup to keep decorum levels up to snuff. Though hardly prolific, these 'gringos del norte' know when to talk and when to keep their yaps shut, preferring to save their best punches for the solar plexus (or lower) and give you more sonic whallop for your record-buying pesos. As always, this platter's unashamed to flaunt the group's influences (the SONICS, all the 'Back From The Grave' one-hit wonders and the CHESTERFIELD KINGS), and attitude, with the rip/snarl of 'No Thanks For Nothing' and 'She Gives It Up' (previewed on the 'Riot On Soundflat Strip' comp), the finger-poppin' yelp of 'Born Full Grown' and "Stuck In My Head", and the slow crash and burn of tracks like 'Red Boots' and 'She Loves Me'. True to form, the Midways have larded their second payload of frantic originals with a pair of seemly covers, pure Sixties fuzz-crud staples 'A Girl Like You' and 'E.S.P.' If these don't show you how to respect your betters and behave in decent company, then nothing can! So after a long wait, now's your chance to hear the latest Midways discus in its gloriously complete fullness. Get ready for some of the wyldest organ driven, fuzz-drenched beat-punk to come out of Canada ever since those glory days of the incredible GRUESOMES. A true hip-shakin' sixties garage au go-go masterpiece! Wig it and dig it, kids! (www. http://soundflat.de)

Hallo, ich hab hier noch was großartiges.

THE HEARTBEATS

Wundervoller Neo-60s-Beat aus München, Germany

Glynnis Wilson notes, “The Heartbeats have been kind of left out of the international garage scene, even though they have a very good single out (and I think they have had more since). They play kind of a sophisticated Beatlesque R & B style of ‘60s pop.”
“I’m walkin’” is a fine upbeat pop song, with good vocals, jangley guitar and forceful playing. “Don’t Tolerate” is less thrilling, sporting a fast shuffle and rushed feel, but with a nice guitar break. (from the bible of all 80’s garage junkies “The Knights Of Fuzz” by Timothy Gassen)

God, I love this disc! (Two Down, Four To Go). Whatcha got here are 13 bouncy pop tunes that sound as if the band listened to nothing but "Beatles 65" and The Hollies' "Beat
Group" albums for a month straight before going into the studio. Songs like "Don't Look Back," "I Won't Be There," "You Can't Come Back" and "In This
Town" all sound like hits from some parallel 1965 universe. Sure, some folks would call it retro, but I could care less because to me, this kind of music is timeless. I wish they had another 10 CDs out that sounded just like this and that they'd come to New York and play some live shows. What more can I say except WOW! (PO Box 41 03 11, 12113 Berlin, GERMANY). While I was getting the files ready to upload tonight, I came across a folder full of DooWop that I had compiled about 15 years ago when I was running a hub. A bunch of us swapped those compilations of our list of what was supposed to be my Top 25 songs but I couldn't stop at 25 so mine was the Top 100 for me. Anyhow, I just uploaded it and realized I had forgotten to take my name off the files, which we used to keep track of who had what on their list. If you like them you can easily rename them. They just have 'Wayne's Favs' on them but not in the tags.

Crazy Legs (Disco Diva)- Thank you for volumes 1 & 2 of The Loft! I listened to most of it last night and apart from a small glitch on the first track, it sounded great. Much appreciated, man!
