I find that if Tillerson is on good terms with Putin is a wonderful thing. The repair of all damages made by that idiot of Obama is under way at last.

i hope congress #RejexRex. it was a d^ck move 4 trump 2 totally freeze out giuliani & chris christie. trump is victorious now, but he was a laughing stock in the very begining to most of the established political community until christie stuck his neck out to be the 1st major politician & prez candidate 2 endorse him.

then when the billy bush tape surfaced, it looked like trump was done. yet giuliani was going on squeamish interviews day-in & day-out ardently defending him. it would've been so easy for giuliani to just call in sick for those uncomfortable weeks, so only a real friend would brave an ordeal like that (& yes, CC & giuliani have known trump for decades. they're ny/nj guys & had a friendship)

& what did their loyalty get? a big fat nothing. trump listened to his weasely son-in-law (jared kushner) who's still holding a grudge that christie did the right thing as AG & prosecute his criminal low-life dad (kushner senior is such a creep that he hired a prostitute to sleep with his own sister's husband.)...& giuliani's "fatal mistake" was that he thought that he was most qualified to be sec of state. trump is like idi amin or stalin: make one misstep & you're dead.

trump is still 100x better than helLIARy but 4 years from now if another R dares to challenge trump during the primaries, i'll be supporting them instead. it's too unbearable to watch trump pick guys based on their COOL NICKNAMES or their LOOKS (trump actually mentioned how good looking Pence was when asked to explain why he picked him as vp & he said that romney "looked the part" for sos & talked about MadDog's cool nickname - & everyone can't stop talking about Rex Tillerson's cool name) & gathering all of those goldman creeps like mnuchin & gary cohn to be on his cabinet.

this whole "loyalty" thing that trump has emphasized over the years that he values among all else makes him look like a hypocrit when he demands it, but doesn't return it. people around him r going to realize this ... & eventually he'll have no one loyal to him (including the voters).

Dump encouraged Russian hacking. Putin was Dump's clandestine election assistant during the campaign. Putin wasn't working for free and he'll call in his chips someday. Probably very quietly. So Dump is already in the midget dictator's pocket. For example, Dump has already proclaimed that NATO is "obsolete." (The Baltics beg to differ.)

How to get Rexxon Tillerless in Putin's pocket? Shouldn't be too hard. If Tsar Vlade the Hospital Bomber offers the oil man some American oil and gas concessions, Rexxon may very well join Dump as a second Putin puppet.

guest-omnnmei in reply to sikko6

"Trump doesn't know that hacking was done by North Koreans."

We can add that to the many things Mr. Clueless doesn't know.

For example, it's unlikely that Dump knows that Singapore is a Third World country. The only person on the planet that "knows" that Singapore is a Third World country is you sikko.

If Brother Nathanael says on U-tube that the Rex dude is responsible for introducing homosexuality to Boy scouts he heads is to be believed, then the whole new era of a neo Fascist New Babylon state is dawning.

Trump;
"If NASA can only agree it's "real" but not as real as they say the planet isn't flat then it's not a "real" planet flattening crisis after all, or the end of the world. All climate change laws, legislation and funding will be cancelled and terminated. Those responsible for decades of needless panic will see legal action, including news editors and lab coat consultants for this tragic abuse of science."

So my 9 year old daughter says to me;
"Why doesn't NASA simply just say it and end this debate if it's truthfully and really about actually saving the planet from CO2?"

Will NASA say it before it’s too late to say it?

The take on Rex is his reputation of integrity and honesty. Something for which the office can benefit greatly. Glad to see the pick, rather than a political hack/lawyer who is looking for the next step in political ladder rather than working on advancing the nation's interests.

Any change is better than Obama kowtowing to the world, apologizing for being American..(and I supported the DH). I swung to the left after Bush lost the F'ing war ... I didn't care if he attacked Iraq but he didn't have a big enough "set" to win it....Trump will start/finish his wars...bring it on!! What the hell do we have to lose>>??

Russian airborne forces are prepared to seize Vilnius, Tallinn and Washington DC the day after Trump's inauguration.
...
Trump intends to purge all opposition from all federal offices using Russian Spetsnaz forces and install sympathetic unemployed coal miners and auto workers in their places.
...
Obama and Hillary will be sent to Gitmo along with thirty thousand of the most active leftist/Democrat activists.
...
Now that Russia has captured the US government by means of DNC email leaks, Putin intends to build an airbridge from the US to Russia in order to acquire the last of America's industrial base.
...
China is helping out and will shortly immigrate one hundred and fifty million Chinese to complete the take over of the US.
...
Putin will reward Trump with the administration of Manhattan and plans are drawn up to bulldoze the northern half of the island for a NASCAR raceway. All in the inimitable style of Trump.
...
All completely true. And you can't do a thing about it. With love, Leonid.

well, pray tell, who nominated Reince Priebus?
why Trump, who nominated him, should be talked sense into?

It is about time we have business people running the country instead of greedy, bribable lawyers, judges, politicians and irascible harridans most of whom are contemptible, weak and corrupt, especially those Democrats who are bought by the Saudis and quite willing to prostitute themselves and the country to the dogma of Islam.

JustBeGood

Looking at Trump's cabinet, the spat with China and the involvement of his children, one can only conclude that Trump has initiated a mafia-style protection racket. Governments need to pay Trump Company a protection fee, otherwise the US will burn down their house.

Traditionally secretary of state is a barking dog job. Hilary and Kerry used to bark at Russia, Syria, Iran, etc. Does Tillerson prepared to do that? Or is it to change the role of secretary of state? Let's hope the latter is the case.

Melissia

High-ranking oil executives from Texas rarely have much integrity-- many a Texan family of the grunts working at their operations has found this out, as has many a Texan family that was supposed to be receiving royalties from the oil under their properties. So while you can hope for integrity, I think it's more important to be watchful for a lack of it.

Very good and balanced article. Adding some perspectives from previous administrations and lessons learned: From a European point of view President Obama and Secretary Kerry have done an overall good job on the foreign policy regarding their intentions, but failed in the execution. The jury is out on Iran - possibly a good move, but may as well be failure - time will tell. Being liberal and tough at the same time is very difficult. President Kennedy succeeded in this balancing act regarding the Berlin crisis (Ich bin ein Berliner) and in the Cuban missile crisis, but failed in the Bay of Pigs early in his term. The problem with Obama and Kerry is the fact they have succeeded in diminishing the U.S. power. They are likable, liberal but weak. Too weak - like representatives for a student counsel trying to teach the tough guys a lesson and utterly failing to do so just attracting less tough guys raising up and causing more trouble makers to emerge on the scene. Drawing red lines in the sand regarding Ukraine and Syria without following up with action is the ultimate failure of their policies. This allows clowns like Duarte playing silly games, since explicitly believes in the U.S. being a diminishing super power. The western world needs a man like Rex Tillerson who in a practical manner can exercise U.S. power for the safety of the civilized world, and at the same time realizing that the emerging super power China has to be handled in a balanced way. On the one hand China is a super power to be engaged with, but on the other hand the regime is oppressing its people and neighboring countries and therefore a steady pair of hands is needed from the new secretary of the state in The U.S. Further, Europeans see a lot of ghosts and threats in Russia, but realizing Russia has limited clout representing an economy in size between Britain and Australia. Rather, engage with Russia and build alliances wherever its possible and promote peaceful standstill in Ukraine. Let's Russia keep the Crimea peninsula without a formal peace agreement, but be firm on Russia not intruding in the internal affairs of the Baltic states, Poland and other countries in Eastern Europe. Rex Tillerson take your time and listen in to great statesmen like James Baker and keep a low profile until you are elected in January. Donald Trump - your bombastic style and personal character assassinations are frightening, but congratulations for a good pick in Rex Tillerson. Not only U.S. but the free world needs a strong America taking the lead among the citizens of the free world and Rex Tillerson seems to have the right qualities as the secretary of state.

A. Andros

"He talks with a drawl."

TE mentions astonishing fact - Mr. Tillerson, like roughly one-hundred million of his fellow Americans -- talks with a draw.

And, TE doesn't believe, even for a moment, that its reporters are "out of touch!"

Here is another amazing fact about Trump's appointees -- ALL of them are carbon-based life-forms. ALL of them! I mean . . . what are the odds of that happening without, say, Russian skullduggery?

One expects that TE's journalists write this sort of nonsense while wearing dark suits. It is like pissing in them -- it gives you a warm feeling but it may be that nobody will notice.

The liberal hysteria over Trump's triumph has reached SNL proportions. The lead article in today's NYT concerned possible Russian meddling in the late election and the editors insist that this meddling was "devastatingly effective."

Say, what? Were voters bribed the promise of free samovars? Have mysterious amounts of Russian caviar been shipped into America via containers?

The lead editorial in the NYT insists that Democrats should contest the "legitimacy" of Trump's election. Actually, it seems pretty damned legitimate. Wisconsin finished its recount yesterday and Trump GAINED forty-five votes. The Michigan recount was killed by the courts and the PA challenge never got off the ground.

Liberals . . . stop wetting yourselves!

Korth in reply to A. Andros

Hey everybody,
On Election Day, there was some guy named Yuri hanging out in the parking lot of the public library where everyone was voting. On that day I was still torn between voting for Clinton or Trump.
Yuri told me that if I voted for Trump he would give me a free bottle of vodka. Yuri accompanied me into the voting room of the library and stood next to me. Yes the ladies thought it was strange but I introduced Yuri to them as my brother in law from Russia. Yuri patiently watched as I voted for Donald Trump.
Back in the parking lot, Yuri gave me my bottle of vodka from the trunk of his rental car. Not very good vodka, but as a low-educated white guy here in flyover country, I am as ignorant as you would expect, so I drank the whole bottle after I cashed my disability check at WalMart.
As God is my witness, this account is absolutely factual.

Curate's Egg in reply to A. Andros

Christ, Andros. You are too smart to indulge in such schadenfreude over Donald Trump. The guy is shaping out as badly as anyone had expected.

This is a banana republic president forming a banana republic cabinet, pure and simple, and whatever you can say about the inadequacies and smugness of the Democrats don't change the fact that Trump will be a terrible president for US.

modernpublius in reply to A. Andros

If Russian hacking was responsible for the public finding out that Ms. Clinton was taking "donations" from numerous Saudi princes, as well as a $12 million "donation" from the King of Morocco, then it was effective. And it was a great public service to the country, which would have otherwise been denied the opportunity to factor that information into their decision on November 8.

If the release of this information caused Ms. Clinton to lose the election, she has no one but herself to blame. She knew what she was doing was wrong, which is why she went to extraordinary lengths to hide it.

I don't see the press screaming about the hacker who was able to find and leak Mr. Trump's tax returns. Perhaps it was the Saudis.

Melissia in reply to Curate's Egg

This isn't schaedenfreude you're seeing from Andros-- schaedenfreude indicates finding amusement in another person's suffering without necessarily being malicious or sadistic-- what you're seeing from him, rather, is just plain bitter animosity towards anyone who doesn't agree 100% with his politics.
.
But if you take that away from him, it would be truly cruel; he'd be left with nothing.

guest-ajwsjeaa in reply to Melissia

Quite so. We (those who read him over the years) all know "he'd be left with nothing". A pathological liar (he said he is a Democrat, and never had anything good to say about any Democrat) and a master troll. A mean man who called "gays" the fungus between his toes and they should should shove it up their own "a--". A vulgar, stupid, and ignorant man. And a misyogynist to boot. All his posts speak for themselves.
