'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The reason for the mouse's silence can be debated, but the tiger snake in the Christmas tree most probably ate it.
The creature had found a home among the Chrissie decorations, causing Cheryl from Frankston to unleash various exclamations.
But like all good Australians, she didn't get in a flap, she stayed well away, apart from a sneaky phone snap.
Now a snake is a burden for a professional to carry, so she hopped on the blower to a snake catcher named Barry.
Twenty minutes later, he had "the little bugger", safely bagging and releasing that scaly tree hugger.
It turns out it was a tiger snake, yes, venomous, but what it was doing in the tree is still anybody's guess.
Tiger snakes can be deadly, according to Wikipedia, but this one in particular only caused a stir on social media.
"He looks so cute", said someone on Twitter, "Time to get a new house", said another, afraid of the critter.
"This is so fake", another did squeal, well, sorry mate, Barry insists this encounter was real.
And thus concludes the tale of Cheryl's Frankston fright, so it's a happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
