Police officer seriously injured after assault in Mandurah

A WA police officer was seriously injured after he was allegedly assaulted by a man in Mandurah on Friday night.

Around 5pm, officers were called to the Mandurah foreshore after reports a man was acting in a disorderly manner, causing a disturbance to other members of the public.

The 38-year-old man was located a short time later by police and arrested because of his aggressive behaviour.

Police allege the man then became violent and assaulted an officer causing serious injury. It's understood the officer has a broken hand.

The 38-year-old man has not been charged at this stage.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, and who saw the incident take place.
