When we first started designing hardware at Valve, we decided we wanted to try and do the manufacturing as well. To achieve our goal of a flexible controller, we felt it was important to have a similar amount of flexibility in our manufacturing process, and that meant looking into automated assembly lines. It turns out that most consumer hardware of this kind still has humans involved in stages throughout manufacturing, but we kind of went overboard, and built one of the largest fully automated assembly lines in the US. Our film crew recently put together a video of that assembly line, showcasing exactly why robots are awesome.
Here's that showcase, where you can watch controllers being built entirely by robots. We aren't crazy though, so humans are still on hand to keep the robots from becoming sentient.

Two years after it was announced, Valve's Steam Controller is finally out! But before you think about spending $50 on this PC gamepad for your living room, here's our early testing impressions. We tried the gamepad with first person shooters, third-person action games, and point-and-click adventure games. The haptic touchpads work as promised, but there's definitely a learning curve.

"Just a note. You can edit the bindings from the Desktop without BP, by Right Clicking the game with the controller turned on. The buttons can also be configured while playing a game without BP running. If you find BP a resource hog or annoying like me, you can also start it in windowed mode at a low resolution."

because ubuntu -mate-welcome was written for ubuntu mate, steam doesnt work out of the box, you have to run a command, this command must be ran in the terminal when it doest launch, i had to do it twice, once to launch it, and the updates ran and then after the updates again.
Here are my notes:
Update your computer:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
or via the update app
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-welcome software-center
install steam via the software boutique
run these commands in the terminal:
cd $HOME/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.bak
cd $HOME/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.bak
I tried to make this video real, so I show the errors I ran in along the way!

Hello! This video will show you how to install any software without knowing admin password. If you want to run another program, just copy the name of that program and replace it with the SteamSetup name!
Problems? Look at the Description!

1. If you did installed it, but can't open Steam.exe itself, do this:
Make another bat file to folder where you installed Steam and type in
"set __COMPAT_LAYER=RunAsInvoker
start Steam"
and then open the bat file as you did to Steam installer
2. This should work. If this doesn't work with ur pc, you are maybe done something wrong. Or maybe you need to do something little different. Look at the comments below. If you have any problem, please tell it on comments, I will notice it and I want to help you! :)

Steam (software)
Steam is an Internet-based digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation offering digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer, and social networking. When we first started designing hardware at Valve, we decided we wanted to try and do the manufacturing as well. To achieve our goal of a flexible controller, we felt it was important to have a similar amount of flexibility in our manufacturing process, and that meant looking into automated assembly lines. It turns out that most consumer hardware of this kind still has humans involved in stages throughout manufacturing, but we kind of went overboard, and built one of the largest fully automated assembly lines in the US. Our film crew recently put together a video of that assembly line, showcasing exactly why robots are awesome.
Here's that showcase, where you can watch controllers being built entirely by robots. We aren't crazy though, so humans are still on hand to keep the robots from becoming sentient.

"Just a note. You can edit the bindings from the Desktop without BP, by Right Clicking the game with the controller turned on. The buttons can also be configured while playing a game without BP running. If you find BP a resource hog or annoying like me, you can also start it in windowed mode at a low resolution."
