3rd ATTEMPT - 1st attempt immediately blocked, 2nd attempt blocked after 3 days. Whilst Studio Canal has every right to protect their copyright, they are unable to distinguish between blatant exploitation and a genuine attempt to produce a promotional clip in the absence of the original trailer (the edits were all done from a legally bought DVD which has nothing but the film on it). I have given up trying to edit a decent 3rd attempt using different stills, instead this is only the main title with some non-copyright music added. Now on to my original blurb:
When Britain still had many factories and people were paid weekly in cash, payroll robberies were regular events. In Newcastle-upon-Tyne (but not a Geordie accent to be heard), a violent payroll robbery occurs, leading to unforeseen consequences for all involved. Although this is a superior British crime thriller, it is seriously flawed by the woeful miscasting of the head villain - Michael Craig is devoid of menace playing a "hard" man. The storyline also stretches credibility, betraying its origins as a crime novel. With the right lead actor (say, Stanley Baker) and a slightly re-worked script, this film could have been a classic. Compensating for the weak lead actor are good action scenes and location filming (some apparently also in Rugby, as well as Norfolk) and a strong supporting cast which includes William Lucas (perfect as the weak inside accomplice), the splendid Kenneth Griffith, Tom Bell, Andrew Faulds (who later became a Labour MP, proof that Parliament is just theatre), and Glyn Houston. The female leads add more strength, French actress Françoise Prévost plays a sexy and deceitful wife, Billie Whitelaw plays an avenging wife, although her role is far-fetched. For American release, some clown came up with the alternative title "I Promised To Pay", but the French were closer to the mark with "Les Gangsters".

M/Ss of Sir Percy Sillitoe, "one-time head of MI5 and now in charge of Britain's foremost security service". He is showing four uniformed security guards the route that their security van will take with the help of a map of London on the wall and some model cars on a model road on the table. The "four tough men" are seen getting into the armoured van and driving off.
It stops to let one of the men out to check out the pick up area; he walks up and down before a branch of the Westminster Bank, looks at his watch and watches out for the van and any suspicious happenings. A man at headquarters speaks with a man in the van via an intercom (the man in the van seems quite bored), telling him it is safe to proceed.
M/S of the van pulling up outside the bank; two of the men go inside with a large bag, one stays in the van and the other keeps watch on the pavement outside. The two guards are seen inside the bank as a bank man opens a vault and puts a sealed bag (presumably containing the payroll) inside the guard's bag; one of the guards attaches a chain to the bag that is fixed to his person (somewhere!).
M/S outside the bank as the lookout guard gives them the all-clear signal to come out.; we can now see a sign on the bank reading 'No.s 1 & 2 Finsbury Square'. Looking left and right they all walk over to the van, get in and drive off.
Note: The security firm featured is 'Security Express'.

Payroll (film)
Payroll is a 1961 British crime thriller starring Michael Craig and Françoise Prévost. Directed by Sidney Hayers, it was based by screenwriter George Baxt on a novel by Derek Bickerton. The story is about a gang of villains who stage a wages robbery that goes disastrously wrong.
Plot
Four crooks (Johnny Mellors, Monty, Blackie and Bert) plan and execute a robbery on a payroll van, using the inside knowledge of Dennis Pearson, who works as an accountant at the firm concerned. Pearson is under pressure to support his wife Katie (Françoise Prévost) who demands a higher standard of living. However, the van driver, Harry Parker, is killed during the heist, whilst Bert is fatally wounded by Parker's colleague Frank Moore. Nevertheless, the gang manage to get away with £100,000.
Having found out that Pearson was the 'inside man', Parker's widow Jackie (Billie Whitelaw) starts posting threatening letters to him. Katie in the meantime has become involved with Johnny, hoping to get some of the money for herself. As the gang start to argue amongst themselves, they are pursued by both Katie and Jackie. The climax takes place in Norfolk, with Johnny and Katie double-crossing each other and Jackie tracking Johnny in her bid for revenge.

3rd ATTEMPT - 1st attempt immediately blocked, 2nd attempt blocked after 3 days. Whilst Studio Canal has every right to protect their copyright, they are unable to distinguish between blatant exploitation and a genuine attempt to produce a promotional clip in the absence of the original trailer (the edits were all done from a legally bought DVD which has nothing but the film on it). I have given up trying to edit a decent 3rd attempt using different stills, instead this is only the main title with some non-copyright music added. Now on to my original blurb:
When Britain still had many factories and people were paid weekly in cash, payroll robberies were regular events. In Newcastle-upon-Tyne (but not a Geordie accent to be heard), a violent payroll robbery occurs, leading to unforeseen consequences for all involved. Although this is a superior British crime thriller, it is seriously flawed by the woeful miscasting of the head villain - Michael Craig is devoid of menace playing a "hard" man. The storyline also stretches credibility, betraying its origins as a crime novel. With the right lead actor (say, Stanley Baker) and a slightly re-worked script, this film could have been a classic. Compensating for the weak lead actor are good action scenes and location filming (some apparently also in Rugby, as well as Norfolk) and a strong supporting cast which includes William Lucas (perfect as the weak inside accomplice), the splendid Kenneth Griffith, Tom Bell, Andrew Faulds (who later became a Labour MP, proof that Parliament is just theatre), and Glyn Houston. The female leads add more strength, French actress Françoise Prévost plays a sexy and deceitful wife, Billie Whitelaw plays an avenging wife, although her role is far-fetched. For American release, some clown came up with the alternative title "I Promised To Pay", but the French were closer to the mark with "Les Gangsters".

M/Ss of Sir Percy Sillitoe, "one-time head of MI5 and now in charge of Britain's foremost security service". He is showing four uniformed security guards the route that their security van will take with the help of a map of London on the wall and some model cars on a model road on the table. The "four tough men" are seen getting into the armoured van and driving off.
It stops to let one of the men out to check out the pick up area; he walks up and down before a branch of the Westminster Bank, looks at his watch and watches out for the van and any suspicious happenings. A man at headquarters speaks with a man in the van via an intercom (the man in the van seems quite bored), telling him it is safe to proceed.
M/S of the van pulling up outside the bank; two of the men go inside with a large bag, one stays in the van and the other keeps watch on the pavement outside. The two guards are seen inside the bank as a bank man opens a vault and puts a sealed bag (presumably containing the payroll) inside the guard's bag; one of the guards attaches a chain to the bag that is fixed to his person (somewhere!).
M/S outside the bank as the lookout guard gives them the all-clear signal to come out.; we can now see a sign on the bank reading 'No.s 1 & 2 Finsbury Square'. Looking left and right they all walk over to the van, get in and drive off.
