It appears that the Sony email hacking scandal is getting worse with each passing day. Now, the subject of one of the most interesting email threads is actor Denzel Washington. According to a set of emails discovered by hackers, executives had concerns about keeping a black lead in major films, mainly because they aren’t able to do very well internationally.
The email was allegedly directed toward one of the company’s executives, with the producer arguing that black people (i.e. Denzel) should not be chosen as leads in films that are expected to sell well overseas. The guy doesn’t seem to be racist (at least he’s trying very hard not to be), but claims that the company should give in to racist beliefs that others have about African American actors.
“No, I am not saying The Equalizer should not have been made or that African American actors should not have been used (I personally think Denzel is the best actor of his generation),” the producer wrote, whose name has not been released.
“Casting him is saying we’re ok with a double if the picture works,” the producer said (a double refers to baseball, rather than a homerun). “He’s reliable at the domestic [box office], safe, but has not had a huge success in years. I believe whenever possible the non event pictures, extra ‘bets’ should have a large inherent upside and be made for the right price. Here there isn’t a large inherent upside.”

Denzel Washington
Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. (born December 28, 1954) is an American actor and filmmaker. He has received three Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award, and two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for the historical war drama film Glory (1989) and Best Actor for his role as a corrupt cop in the crime thriller Training Day (2001).
Washington has received much critical acclaim for his film work since the 1990s, including his portrayals of real-life figures such as South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko in Cry Freedom (1987), Muslim minister and human rights activist Malcolm X in Malcolm X (1992), boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in The Hurricane (1999), football coach Herman Boone in Remember the Titans (2000), poet and educator Melvin B. Tolson in The Great Debaters (2007), and drug kingpin Frank Lucas in American Gangster (2007). He has been a featured actor in the films produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and has been a frequent collaborator of directors Spike Lee and the late Tony Scott. In 2016 he was selected as the recipient for the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

According to a set of emails discovered by hackers, executives had concerns about keeping a black lead in major films, mainly because they aren’t able to do very well internationally.
The email was allegedly directed toward one of the company’s executives, with the producer arguing that black people (i.e. Denzel) should not be chosen as leads in films that are expected to sell well overseas. The guy doesn’t seem to be racist (at least he’s trying very hard not to be), but claims that the company should give in to racist beliefs that others have about African American actors.
“No, I am not saying The Equalizer should not have been made or that African American actors should not have been used (I personally think Denzel is the best actor of his generation),” the producer wrote, whose name has not been released.
“Casting him is saying we’re ok with a double if the picture works,” the producer said (a double refers to baseball, rather than a homerun). “He’s reliable at the domestic [box office], safe, but has not had a huge success in years. I believe whenever possible the non event pictures, extra ‘bets’ should have a large inherent upside and be made for the right price. Here there isn’t a large inherent upside.”

Actor Denzel Washington has blasted the ‘fake news’ epidemic which saw him at one point miscast as a Donald Trump supporter.
In a recent interview for his newest film Fences, the Academy Award-winning actor addressed a false article claiming he had voiced his support of the then-US presidential candidate and now President-elect.
"So what a responsibility you all have to tell the truth – not just to be first, but to tell the truth," Washington said.
"We live in a society now where it's just first. Who cares? Get it out there.
“We don't care who it hurts. We don't care who we destroy. We don't care if it's true. Just say it and sell it.
"Anything you practice you'll get good at – including BS."
The article in question was published to Anews24 and featured a quote from Charles Evers, who is the brother of slain 1960s civil rights activist Medgar Evers, which were misattributed to Washington.
“We need more and more jobs. Unemployment is way up here,” the quote ran.
“He’s (Trump’s) hired more employees, more people, than anyone I know in the world.”
Washington never spoke in support of either Mr Trump or his rival, Democrat Hillary Clinton.
An excerpt from the interview shared by comedian Gary Owen has been viewed more than 21 million times.
It has since been shared by Gold Coast Titans fullback Jarryd Hayne.
“#truth Hats off to the majority of the fans that see through the BS,” Hayne wrote in his post.
