The 24-year-old male driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital under police guard for minor injuries, while the other passengers and the driver in the Mazda also suffered some minor injuries.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the fatal collision, which happened about 7.30pm.
