Sweat tells the story of when Jamie (Matthew McNulty), meets Mia (Bonnie Wright) for the first time when she's stealing health bars in a local supermarket - and he's uttery captivated by her. They meet by chance again at a cafe when Jamie is with his friends Sean (Douglas Booth) and Zan (Daisy Lowe) andJamie takes his chance, gets Mia's number. An intense relationship quickly develops. But as their feelings deepen, so does the need for Jamie and Mia to lose themselves in their own private world where no-one else is welcome. Yet as strong as his feelings are, so is Jamie's resistance to losing himself, heart and soul into love, along with the powerful roller coaster of emotions it brings - not all of them good. Jamie finds himself pushing Mia further and further away until she can't take any more. Six months later and Jamie is still not over Mia - but with time comes wisdom and he reminsces on where he went wrong. But if you're still consumed by her - is it really over at all? ______________________________________________________________________________ Sweat, which stars Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter films), Matthew McNulty (Control, Looking for Eric, Spike Island, Room At The Top), Douglas Booth (Noah, Jupiter Ascending, Romeo and Juliet) and British 'It' girl Daisy Lowe is a little indie film with a big cast. But more than anything, Sweat is nothing if not a story about patience and persistence behind the cameras: shot a few days before Christmas in December 2009, even the production itself was a feat. Alexandra Billington's script for Sweat - via producer Peter Ogunsalu (who worked on some of Britain's biggest films, from Interview With A Vampire to Bel Ami etc...), was read by some of the best young British actors around. We got the finance and go ahead to shoot just two weeks before production began - all of our dream cast said yes. An award-winning London-based director David Allain (perhaps best known for directing the huge Ting Ting's hit That's Not My Name with over 33 million views on youtube ) was now to take the helm of Sweat as director. At the time Bonnie Wright was still part of the Harry Potter cast and we were very excited to be working with her on a more mature role. In the flesh, the very ethereal and smart actress was most definitely our perfect Mia. Actor Matthew McNulty had read the script for Sweat and was keen on the lead role of Jamie. We met him on a wet cold Monday night at BAFTA in London and knew instantly Matthew was our Jamie. Our search, which had taken several months and included a list of some of Britain's brightest talents, was over. Douglas Booth, who was just on the verge of seeing his career going stratospheric, agreed to cameo as Sean - Jamie's best friend (and yes, he's lovely and even better looking in the flesh). Daisy Lowe, a gorgeous young model and actress with a wicked sense of humour, agreed to cameo as Zan - the girlfriend of Douglas Booth's character. So it was game on for Team Sweat. The shoot itself was undertaken in just three intensive days which each day stretching over 15 hours.. There was no opportunity to spend too much time on each scene - and we had just hours to set up, set dress, do actor's costumes and make-up and shoot at each location because of extreme time constraints. On the last day of our intense three day production, we were scheduled to shoot key scenes with Bonnie and Matthew - and not one, but two cameras suddenly were out of action. We'd managed to get just a single take (a wide shot) of one of the most important scenes in Sweat (the kitchen scene) and there was no way to get a replacement camera on a the last Sunday evening before Christmas. Thanks to our camera team, we finally got a camera on track and shot the final exterior scene with Bonnie and Matthew in an entirely different location to the one scheduled or written. The scene was shot in an hour outside the offices of Number 9 Films in Soho, London - then Matthew had to leave. The rest of us headed to a nearby pub for a very impromptu and well-earned wrap party. Against all odds, we'd done it. That we finished the film at all was an accomplishment and huge credit can only go to the professionalism of the whole team from actors to production assistants. That the film was not just finished, but looked and felt pretty good, despite camera and time dramas, was a near miracle. Sweat was originally to be part of a larger international feature film comprised of three stories set in three cities, each with an all star cast. But feature films, especially ones that are unusual in concept to more mainstream films, take such a long time to produce if you want to make them to the highest quality which was our aim.
