Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known as Buddy Holly, was an American musician and singer/songwriter who was a central figure of mid-1950s rock and roll. Holly was born in Lubbock, Texas, to a musical family during the Great Depression; he learned to play guitar and to sing alongside his siblings. His style was influenced by gospel music, country music and rhythm and blues acts, and he performed in Lubbock with his friends from high school. He made his first appearance on local television in 1952, and the following year he formed the group "Buddy and Bob" with his friend Bob Montgomery. In 1955, after opening for Elvis Presley, Holly decided to pursue a career in music. He opened for Presley three times that year; his band's style shifted from country and western to entirely rock and roll. In October that year, when he opened for Bill Haley & His Comets, Holly was spotted by Nashville scout Eddie Crandall, who helped him get a contract with Decca Records.

A fantastic song about White Lightning (or Mountain Dew, Moonshine, Booze - however you wanna call it !) ! George Jones had a big hit with it in 1959, but here is the FANTASTIC original version by the great Big-Bopper (J. P. Richardson - he wrote the song) .... STOP, LOOK and LISTEN !
J. P. Richardson, Jr. (October 24, 1930 -- February 3, 1959) Richardson was killed in a small-plane crash in Iowa, along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
Subscribe http://goo.gl/Q2kKrD When Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson passed away on February 3rd, 1959 after a small plane crash, rock and roll lost some of its most notable early pioneers. Singer-songwriter Don McLean called this moment in music history "The Day the Music Died," in his song "American Pie." In this http://www.WatchMojo.com video, we learn more about the lives and deaths of early rock icons Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper.
At the 50 Winters Later Concert held at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa on Feb. 2 2009, it was exactly 50 years to the day of the last concert of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper before they died in a plane crash that night. The Big Bopper's son, JP Richardson, Jr., performed some of his father's hits. This clip is an emotional one, as he finally gets to take home his father's briefcase from the Surf Ballroom, five decades to the day later, as he performs "Chantilly Lace".
This video goes into detail on the death of the Big Bopper and the mid 2000's exhumation of his body. The details on the exhumation were wrote by a witness to the exhumation and was there through the hole thing.
Apparently theres no video on youtube for this surreal song so here ya go. note: I do not own this song, all copyrights go to the respective owner.

Buddy Holly & The Crickets playing Peggy Sue live
An upload I can't take credit for as I downloaded it a few years ago & it seems to have gone missing from the YouTube archive. Kudos to the person who put this clip together. Rock would not exist without this man. This includes rare UK live performances from 1958. Hard to believe he would no longer be with us a very short time later. Rest in peace, sir.

Finally released is the entire performance by Buddy Holly & The Crickets of, "Maybe Baby", live on the BBC's, "Off The Record" TV show from 1958. Only the audio survives. The recording has been remastered from the original source. Rave On!!!
Buddy Holly and the Crickets made an appearance on the Arthur Murray Dance Party on December 29, 1957. It was unusual to see a band like the Crickets performing on the show. This video includes the complete introduction by Kathryn Murray. Another interesting note...this footage is used on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" compilations. Clark claims that the footage of the only appearance that Holly and the Crickets made on Bandstand in the fall of 1958 was destroyed in the 70s. They performed "Heartbeat". It's a shame that the footage was destroyed because it was Buddy's last appearance on TV before his death.

[Intro:] You changed a beggar into a king.
[Verse 1:] I had sunk as low as a man could go, The world had turned me down. (Turned me down.) But you picked me up an' you kissed me sweet, An' you whispered, "I'll always be around."
[Bridge:] You tore the rags from off my back, And you placed a crown on my head. Now, you walk beside me because, Y'changed a beggar into a king.
[Instrumental break.]
