Australia v Pakistan live cricket: Brisbane Test, day three

Australia look to wreak more damage on Pakistan with the pink ball on day three of the first Test.

Pakistan victim of Millimetre close run out decision

Run outs don't get any closer than this as David Warner threw down the stumps while Rahat Ali scrambled back into his crease.

STUMPS!

And that'll do us here after day three at the Gabba. Pakistan close out the day at 2-70 with Azhar Ali on 41 off 104 balls and Younis Khan still yet to score after facing 19 deliveries. They're still miles behind but they're certainly showing plenty more gumption this innings. Thanks for your company today, and we'll be back in action at the same time tomorrow for day four. Take care and have a good night!

David Warner undergoing some serious sprint training late in the day here. Azhar has just blasted three glorious drives through the covers for three boundaries, despite Warner's best efforts to track them down. Azhar up to 38 now with Pakistan at 2-67 and Younis Khan still struggling to get Hazlewood away.

BOUNDARY

Azhar Ali just releases the shackles again with a nice shot through the covers for four. Pakistan creep to 2-59 and Azhar is up to 30 now.

Younis Khan has played and missed twice against Hazlewood that over. He's still on a pair, really struggling to get anything away right now. Can he survive until stumps? Jackson Bird replaces Nathan Lyon at the other end to squeeze in an over or two before we finish tonight.

Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism!

Hazlewood is dominating Younis Khan here...let's not forget the Pakistan run machine is on a pair after his golden globe in the first innings. He's the key wicket for Australia despite his recent struggles.

WICKET!

The Aussies have broken through...nice bowling from Nathan Lyon to dismiss Babar for 14 who edged one to first slip. Younis Khan comes to the crease now after his golden duck in the first dig. There's still 25 minutes to play of this final session and that's going to be a very difficult 25 minutes to navigate for the visitors.

Looks like the Aussies will be getting a replacement ball here...the current one doesn't seem to be passing through the metal ball measurer seamlessly enough. Probably has a flat spot. This probably won't do anything to wake the crowd up. Pakistan are still 1-54 with Babar and Azhar looking pretty comfortable out there.

BOUNDARY!

Pakistan have found the rope, with Babar pulling one around the corner from Nathan Lyon to beat the man at short fine leg. It runs away quickly to the boundary and Babar moves onto 14 from 33 balls. Pakistan are up to 1-54 with about 35 minutes to play.

REVIEW!

The original decision stands and Babar survives. Australia reviewed a possible caught behind from the bowling of Nathan Lyon against Babar. Wade seemed confident there was an edge down the leg side but the third umpire rightly found there was nothing in it.

Babar punches one down the ground for three. Nice shot and easily the most exciting thing that's happened for quite a while in this one. Pakistan are definitely showing a stronger backbone this evening which is good to see.

So what else is happening in the world...did you hear Donald Trump is going to be president? That could be interesting....I wonder how it will impact Australian-Pakistan cricketing relations. Anyway, back to the Gabba and Josh Hazlewood is back on bowling like a metronome and proving impossible to score off. This is his sixth over and he's already bowled about 137 maidens. It's 1-44 after 22 overs.

That was a better over for Pakistan, Azhar managed to pick up a couple of twos with some clever placement and speedy running between the wickets. A bit more of that would at least keep the scoreboard ticking over a bit more.

Good start there from Nathan Lyon, he's getting plenty of turn and bounce already here. Pakistan continue to bore...at this run rate, if they don't lose too many wickets over the next two days, they would still fall well short of the Aussie total.

That's probably a little bit harsh because I think the Pakistan bowlers haven't been too bad this Test match, they've just bowled without a lot of luck. Mind you, a dash of Wasim Akram would certainly be handy...meanwhile, Nathan Lyon is into the attack for the first time this innings.

Wasim...what are you up to on Boxing Day? Might have a job for you for five days

This is really tough for Pakistan, every single run is hard to come by. After a fast start, the visitors are now 1-34 off 17 overs so they're scoring at just two per over now. And have just three runs in the last half an hour since Sami was dismissed. Nothing overly locomotive about any of this.

Well Pakistan have exploded to life in that over taking two runs off Mitchell Starc. They went scoreless for almost 20 minutes prior to that. 1-33 now with Babar on 1 and Azhar on 17.

Last night it was Sami standing up to the Aussie pacemen and soaking up delivery after delivery. This time around it's his opening partner Azhar Ali who is looking very comfortable at the crease after failing yesterday. Let's not forget this bloke does have a Test match triple century to his name so he knows what it takes to hang about for a while. We're up to 21 straight dot balls now since Sami was dismissed.
