Alleged fare evader arrested after headbutting police officers

Three police officers have been taken to hospital after they were allegedly headbutted by a passenger who failed to present a ticket at Chatswood train station in Sydney's north.

Police were called at 5pm on Friday after a rail employee reported being spat on by a commuter.

Police say the man, 35, became increasingly aggressive when he was asked to present his train ticket.

As police attempted to restrain the man with pepper spray, he allegedly lashed out; kicking, headbutting and spitting at them.

All three officers have since been released from hospital.

The man was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, common assault and use of offensive language, as well as failure to present a ticket.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
