Finding a source[edit]

Tips for finding a source yourself

Note that sites like LibGen and Sci-hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot handle full book scans
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
  • You can point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... ). You can share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal, or by emailing the content to the requester.
  • You can email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

A couple of pages from Essential Solitude[edit]

I would like a scan of a couple of pages of Essential Solitude: The Letters of H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth (Hippocampus Books, 2008). I can see a quote on Google Books as follows: "Just had word of the revival of Astounding Stories (as a largely weird magazine) by Street & Smith. That sounds good! .... I knew that someone had bought it, one T. R. Foley, for $100.00 from the defunct Clayton outfit. He also bought Clues; this..." It seems to be on page 600; I would like enough surrounding information to be able to cite the source -- who wrote the letter and when.

This is for Astounding Stories, to include the information about Foley and the price of the sale, which I haven't seen in any other source. Thanks -- Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 23:52, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

@Mike Christie: is this still open? Doc Taxon (talk) 08:30, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes -- the snippet linked above doesn't give any information about who wrote the letter or when, so it's not citable. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 08:59, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Sputnik magazine, July 1970[edit]

I'm trying to find a copy of Sputnik, July 1970. It was a Soviet magazine similar to Reader's Digest, and was published by Novosti. Apparently it was published in a few languages; the English copy would be preferred, but any of them would be great.

It's only required for the article in it on the Spaceship Moon theory (not my word!). Apparently this article was titled "IS THE MOON THE CREATION OF INTELLIGENCE?" and was by Mikhail Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov. We currently have an apparent copy of it hosted on a fringe site,[3] but obviously we can't treat that copy as reliable.

It's for use in Spaceship Moon Theory article. Cheers, Bromley86 (talk) 22:53, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

It looks like the only worldcat libraries that hold the issue are Cornell and NYU. --Worldbruce (talk) 03:00, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
The title of that magazine is short, so the ISSN number 0131-8748 may help searching the catalogs. I couldn't find any copies of issues that old (year 1970) in online catalogs though. – b_jonas 14:40, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
The links above indicate that Cornell holds 1968-1977 and NYU holds 1967-1988, but no other worldcat library holds the issue. Many small or specialized libraries, such as those within museums, aren't on worldcat; so if someone knows a "Museum of Soviet Culture", or some such, that might be worth checking. Issues are occasionally offered on eBay, but I haven't seen July 1970 for sale. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:49, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Need an Audio article; may be in EBSCO[edit]

I was searching on google books for sources on Amor Prohibido and came across a 1995 article in Audio on its production that would be essential to have. If anyone can provide me the full article it will be very much appreciated. Thanks – jona 19:13, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

From the limited amount of context in the snippet, I'm guessing you need

@WhisperToMe: Found and sent four. For some reason, JSTOR doesn't have the brief science fiction studies book review. Both should be on pg. 234 but i don't see it. I don't know if it exists. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:32, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Is there an error in the citation for that book review? The article MrLinkinPark333 found begins with the cited page for the book review, and the PDF for that article does not include the book review. John M Baker (talk) 15:35, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Verification of alleged fake star name in celestial atlas[edit]

Title: "Atlas coeli Skalnaté Pleso II.: Katalog 1950.0"
Author: Antonín Bečvář
Publishing: Přírodovědecké Vydavatelstrí
Year: 1951
Page: 286

A rather common vandalism act consists in adding fake names to star articles in the Wikipedia (more information here). I have found a probable fake name for Delta Aquilae, "Denebokab" or "Deneb Okab", about which there is no reliable source prior to its addition in the mentioned Wikipedia article. Most probably, if not vandalism, the alleged fake name is due to a confusion with Epsilon Aquilae and Zeta Aquilae which are both named similarly ("Deneb el Okab", having reliable sources both).

However, upon my "citation needed" request, a user has recently added a citation, in theory reliable, but very difficult to verify. Therefore I ask for collaboration to check this name. I am almost sure the name such name is not in any book (also because such a name is nonsense: "deneb okab" means "tail of the eagle", an this star is not the tail but the chest of the eagle).

Here is an English version of the same book, although it is not the edition added as source in the article. --Eynar Oxartum (talk) 16:42, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

@Eynar: The book is available on GBooks. If you can't access it, I can send a PDF of the page. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:02, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
@Eynar and Lithopsian: The Google Books snippet view doesn't help because the book hasn't been indexed for searching (perhaps because it's almost entirely tables of numbers). The cited page number is also incorrect. The citing editor may have mistakenly entered the number of pages the book has (286 is the last numbered page), rather than the page number that supports the statement.
Email me for a scan of the relevant page (p. 277). It is the first page of the second table in the "Tables" appendix, titled "TAB. II. JMÉNA HVĔZD.", and below that "Названия звезд — Names of the stars." Five names in the table begin with "Deneb", including Deneb Okab, which is listed as being in constellation δ Aql with GC 26816 (GC being defined in the introduction as "čislo v Bossově General Catalogue"). --Worldbruce (talk) 18:53, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
@Eynar: Did you get to look at page 277? --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 06:05, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

2014-2016 Kerrang! article on The Used[edit]

Hello. I am looking for a Kerrang! article with an interview with either Bert McCracken or The Used about their music video for Cry on or after January 27, 2014. I've found this interview referenced here with the quote "With the 'Cry' video, we were trying to create an atmosphere stripped down to have intentions,". This source is for the creation of Cry (The Used song), which I'm currently working on in my userspace. Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:35, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

There is a good chance it's from the October 2014 lyrics issue. K!1539 – Inside The Lyrics: Rock’s Stars On The Stories Behind The Songs Let me see if I can track it down. - NQ (talk) 21:23, 7 November 2016 (UTC) not in there- NQ (talk) 22:13, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
@NQ: I've located another issue where songs lyrics are being talked about. Maybe it's in there? Else there's other issues the band are referenced here, but I'm not sure about the likelihood of the info being there. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 05:48, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Hey! I remember going though all the issues listed here, but couldn’t find anything related. I don’t have access to them now but will keep an eye out. - NQ (talk) 18:46, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@Solomon7968: What do you need exactly? what do you mean by "locate an online copy"? --Mhhossein talk 12:33, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Full book if someone can manage to find the copy. However if it is not possible then improvements to the four other Sense organs by adding the quotes will do my job. Solomon7968 12:35, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Can you give me the link to the book on Brill's website? --Mhhossein talk 12:42, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
No I can't and my first post is just the same request to folks here although I would like to imagine the book is available online elsewhere. However even in its absence finding the four quotes similar to which I mention above is surely not an impossible exercise. Solomon7968 14:02, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
This book is not available on the Brill website. Maybe you should go via Worldcat and the interlibrary Ioan service of your home library --Melly42 (talk) 14:14, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Actually, the book can be located on Brill for purchase, but not on the Brill online website. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:04, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
  • I never received any log in details, and did not realise that Brill access had gone live. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 16:20, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

On Being Hawaiian[edit]

I need helping finding citation information for "On Being Hawaiian", a book/essay which was printed four different time. These are my attempts at listing the ones I could find online either on worldcat.org or elsewhere. What was the third edition? And was the 1964 print shorter than the other prints because it was called an essay (although it is understandable that there could be a long essay); I don't trust the worldcat.org information since they even got the publisher wrong (it was the Honolulu Star-Bulletin not Topgallant who published the first edition)?

@KAVEBEAR: I've found a 1964 edition, with the same amount of pages as the 2nd edition. However google could be wrong cause i see it cited as 1965 topgallant as well --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 05:26, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Ok thanks. Can someone help me find the third edition?--KAVEBEAR (talk) 19:06, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Grapes of Canaan: Hawaii 1820[edit]

Please help me get a scan of these page below or send me a typed up text of the relevant passages. I need it for work on Likelike (wife of Kalanimoku). Please help me find any other passage in this book related to Likelike.

The Lord's Anointed: A Novel of Hawaii[edit]

Google book has not been working for me like it use to. I found and noted down this quotation years ago but now the book is not searchable in snippet view. I need find the rest of the relevant quotation for work on Likelike (wife of Kalanimoku). Please help me find the page(s) for this passage and the entirety of the information provided.

[6] "We are much relieved. February 26, 1821. An heir was born to Kalanimoku and Likelike during the night. We were apprised of the fact when cannons were fired, as we later were told, directly outside the mother's door. I trust the poor babe will not be permanently deafened by such a rude reception. The criers are rushing about collecting dogs and pigs for a luau, and the ceaseless dancing continues. They still pay tribute to the akuah or god of the dance despite all the objections of the brethren. The governor, the king, and anyone appealed to make the same response: "It is only in play," and the brethren are in perpetual chagrin" "March 10, 1821. The town is gone mad with an orgy of mourning for Likelike. She died some days ago, not long after her babe, who survived the cannon salute by only twenty- four hours. The mother suffered a high fever after the death of"

Article from Cosmetics & Toiletries[edit]

I was looking for the article referred to at Lanolin#cite_note-barnett-2

Barnett G (1986). "Lanolin and Derivatives". Cosmetics & Toiletries. 101: 21–44.

but I wasn't able to find it online. Does it have a DOI? 83.150.101.35 (talk) 20:56, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

It doesn't have a doi. Cosmetics & Toiletries is a trade journal. Full text isn't available online for it as far back as 1986, so you'd be looking for a library with a paper copy, ISSN 0361-4387. --Worldbruce (talk) 22:30, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Sudan's Painful Road To Peace[edit]

Hi. I'm working on a destub for Josephine Apieu Jenaro Aken and I would like to know if she appears in:

  • Arop Madut Arop (2006) Sudan's Painful Road To Peace: Founding and Development of SPLM/SPLA, ISBN 1-4196-1153-4.

I currently don't have access to a copy. If she is mentioned, could I request a scan of the pages that mention her? Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:59, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

It looks like she probably is not mentioned. It's searchable, to some degree, at Amazon, and a search for "Aken" (and each of her other names) produces nothing. In addition, the book's index is accessible via Amazon search, and she is not listed in the index. John M Baker (talk) 19:42, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
I had a suspicion. I assume the same goes for her husband Dominic Dim Deng? --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:20, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
There are some references to him, under the name Dominic Diim Deng. Some but not all are accessible via Amazon. John M Baker (talk) 21:34, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Katie talk show 5/30/2013[edit]

In one of the articles here on Wikipedia about a living person, Jacob Barnett, there is in the article and in the latest Afd for the same article listed a link for a Katie Couric talk show where she interviews the aforementioned person. In the article (as of today December 4th 2016) the link provided is this: katiecouric.com/ whereas the link in the Afd is given as this: katiecouric.com/2013/05/30/living-with-autism/

The latter link would suggest an air-date of May 30th 2013, and this seems to be confirmed by a listing of the show on www.tv.com: Katie Couric chats with 14-year-old genius The title of this specific show/segment could be: "The 14-Year-Old Living with Autism Who Could Win a Nobel Prize".

I have not been able to locate this show neither by following the links nor by searching the Katie Couric website or YouTube or Google for that matter.

Anyone capable of locating this specific show? --Oleryhlolsson (talk) 13:01, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

@Oleryhlolsson: Internet Archive might be helpful but it doesn't have the video. Archive.is has the video but it's not playable (and there's ads I don't trust) --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 21:18, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes that looks a little suspicious. The chance is that it either leads to nothing or at least nothing good. Oleryhlolsson (talk) 06:29, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Representative Committee of Delegates of the Hawaiian People to present a memorial to Hon. James H. Blount, praying for the restoration of the monarchy under Queen Liliuokalani[edit]

Hui Aloha ʻĀina o Na Kane.jpg

This is a request for an image resource from the Library of Congress. Does anyone have access to the Library of Congress in person or know of a way to get a larger version of this image http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/89709348/ of the "Representative Committee of Delegates of the Hawaiian People to present a memorial to Hon. James H. Blount, praying for the restoration of the monarchy under Queen Liliuokalani". In my opinion, the online TIFF version is still way too small to discern the faces of the individual assembled there. This will be used in multiple articles including biographies of the nineteen assembled individuals. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 07:21, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

@KAVEBEAR: There's a JPG link next to the TIFF. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:23, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
Larger. The jpg is even smaller.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:30, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Request PDF - Hathi Trust - United States university library affiliation needed[edit]

I would like a PDF copy of this public domain book provided by HathiTrust. The PDF is available for download at

Only people from select universities mostly based in the United States can download.

I am developing the article on Syrian hamster. I want to explore adding this book to Commons and Wikisource.

A select number of pages from Cases in Early Childhood Education: Stories of Programs and Practices for an article on an elementary school[edit]

Driscoll, Amy. Cases in Early Childhood Education: Stories of Programs and Practices. Allyn and Bacon, 1994. ISBN 0205150217, 9780205150212.
