Michael Peter Balzary (born October 16, 1962), better known by his stage name Flea, is an Australian-born, American musician. He is best known as the bassist, co-founding member, and one of the composers of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers with whom he was inducted in 2012 into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Flea briefly appeared as the bassist for such bands as What Is This?, Fear and Jane's Addiction. More recently he has appeared as a member of the rock supergroups Atoms for Peace, Antemasque, Pigface and Rocket Juice & the Moon. Flea has also collaborated with other artists, including The Mars Volta, Johnny Cash, Alanis Morissette and Young MC.
In 2009, Rolling Stone's readers ranked Flea the second-best bassist of all-time, behind only John Entwistle and ahead of Paul McCartney.
Flea has made occasional forays into acting, appearing in films that span many genres, such as Suburbia, Back to the Future Part II and Part III, My Own Private Idaho, The Chase, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Thrashin', and The Big Lebowski, in addition to voicing the character Donnie Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys animated television series and films. In 2014, Flea made his long awaited return to acting when he appeared in the film, Low Down.

This was a fun improvisational funk jam that we played at my church during a cd release concert. Used an EHX q-tron for the main riff, and a boss odb3 bass overdrive for the solo part. You get a good idea of just how funky and aggressive this bass can get. Some great solos in this jam! It was such an honor to play with such amazing, talented musicians.

Pigface was formed from Ministry's The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste tour,[2] which produced the In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up live album and video. For the tour, Al Jourgensen brought Atkins, Nivek Ogre and Chris Connelly. Also on the tour was Rieflin, regular Ministry drummer at the time. While Atkins enjoyed the dynamic of playing with a second drummer, he felt that the lineup was capable of doing much more than being, what he has frequently called, "a Ministry cover band." Once the tour was over, Atkins and Rieflin decided to continue working together and recruited several of their tourmates from The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste tour. Pigface was born with the intention of keeping a revolving-door style collaboration with many experimentally-minded musicians, many of...

I'm trying to figure out whether to keep the fender Jazz Bass which is the flea signature model or the Ernie Ball Sub Bass. Both are played through a Gallien Krueger amplifier. I'm not a bass player. Only played 3 times. So I want a bass that is comfortable that I can learn on. Here's my impressions.

MANASQUAN TURKEY RUN: It's one of the biggest runs of the year at the Jersey Shore. The Turkey Run (formerly the Turkey Trot) consists of a 1-mile run (10 a.m.) and 5-mile run (11 a.m.) with proceeds going to various local charities. Of course, the day is just as famous for its excellent post-run events at local Manasquan bars such as Leggett's, Reef and Barrel, Irish Rail, and the Manasquan Beach House. Runners can pick up their T-shirts and race bibs (and register if need be) at Leggett's on Thursday and Friday night, and the Manasquan Little League Field on Saturday. Race-day pick-up and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. $25-$35. Saturday 10 a.m., 11 a.m. 69 Second Ave., Manasquan.
WHISKEY REVIVAL: It's safe to say that whiskey has become the "spirit of the moment" in American drinking culture. On Saturday, The Golden Nugget in Atlantic City will be celebrate this cultural spirits shift with an event, aptly named The Whiskey Revival. This event allows attendees to take part in tastings, mixology classes, demonstrations, and educational seminars. Whiskey distilleries participating in the revival will include: Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniel's, Glenfiddich, Knob Creek, Jim Beam and Maker's Mark. $59. Saturday, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. 1 Castle Road, Atlantic City, (609) 441-2000.
JIM GAFFIGAN COMES TO MONTCLAIR: "King Baby" himself, Jim Gaffigan comes to The Wellmont Theatre this weekend. Gaffigan has been on fire the past few years with the success of his TV Land series "The Jim Gaffigan Show," sold-out performances around the country, and his recent string of commercials he's starred in. Gaffigan's inimitable comedic style, and his highly relatable subject matter (food, fatherhood, and laziness) has propelled to the top of the stand-up world, and entrenched him in the hearts of fans around the country. The comedian is currently on his "Fully Dressed" Tour and will perform two shows on Friday and Saturday. $20-$125. Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m., 9:30 p.m. 5 Seymour Street, Montclair. 973-783-9500.

"Late Show" host and former "Colbert Report" star Stephen Colbert teams with John Oliver of HBO's "Last Week Tonight" for a show titled "Wow, That Was Weird: A Post-Election Evening with Stephen Colbert and John Oliver." Saturday, 8 p.m. 1 Center Street, Newark. 1-888-GO-NJPAC.
NEW JERSEY COMIC EXPO: A lot of "comic cons" these days are focusing more on celebrity signings, world premieres, and cosplay shenanigans than comic books. The New Jersey Comic Expo, which takes place at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison on Saturday and Sunday, is putting the emphasis on comic books as artists, writers and editors are the big headliners for the event. Some of the big-name comic talent include artist Neal Adams ("Superman," "Batman"), artist Mike Zeck ("Punisher", "Captain America"), and artist Mark Bagley ("Spider-Man"). There will be some celebrities on hand including cast members from "The Walking Dead," "Stranger Things," and "Insidious." $25-$50. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison, (732) 417-1400.
