A large number of activists, journalists, politicians, and opposition leaders have also fled Burundi for their own personal safety, settling in Rwanda's capital, Kigali. Rwanda’s recovery, post the 1994 genocide has been hailed as a global example of how a country can rise from the ashes to build a vibrant, forward looking economy. Rwanda has been ranked highly in doing business indicators covering economic and human development. Strides that have seen the country sustain an 8.8% gross domestic product growth compared to Kenya’s –East Africa largest economy- 5.4 percent growth in 2015.
The Kigali Special Economic Zone is under construction and will boost the Rwandan Economy to a greater extent
Just 20 years ago, genocide left Rwanda's economy in ruins. But today, the economy is growing, thanks in part to home-grown entrepreneurship.
The Global financial crisis has seen many investors move their portfolios to Sub-Saharan Africa as it has been seen as ten of the fifteen fastest growing economies. Broadcaster CNBC Africa was no different as they moved their East Africa regional Headquarters to Kigali, Rwanda.

An economic transformation is under way in an enclave at the head of Africa's Great Rift Valley. Here the East African nation of Rwanda is establishing a record of high growth, economic stability, and falling external debt. Decisively moving on from a war-scarred past, Rwanda is on a drive to attract entrepreneurs and risk-takers, and to be East Africa's next enterprise zone.
It suffered a genocide that wiped out 1.2 million people in one hundred days and decimated the country's economy. But 15 years on, its international supporters are calling Rwanda's economic recovery a miracle. Now the government has chosen to drop French as the language taught in schools and used in business - in favour of English. All to attract even more companies to do busines there. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from the capital, Kigali.

UMUGANURA AND FESPAD 2016 CELEBRATION IN RWANDA Umuganura/National Harvest ceremony was since the ninth century; Rwanda’s core practice in maintaining the country’s steadfast culture, until it was abolished by colonialists in 1925 leading to the exile of Gashamura ka Rukangirashyamba, then chief in charge of Umuganura celebrations to the neighbouring country – Burundi. It was one of the most important ceremonies celebrated by Rwandans at the beginning of every harvest season, as an occasion of appraising the country’s achievements in terms of harvest both at the kingdom and family levels. It served a very crucial role in building the Rwandan unity, as well as a strong relationship with God through the traditional religious practices performed by the King or Queen mother during the festivi...

The culture of Rwanda is varied. Unlike many countries in Africa, Rwanda has been a unified state since pre-colonial times with only one ethnic group, the Banyarwanda, and a shared language and cultural heritage. Music and dance are an integral part of Rwandan ceremonies, festivals, social gatherings, and storytelling. The most famous traditional dance is Intore, a highly choreographed routine consisting of three components - the ballet, performed by women; the dance of heroes, performed by men, and the drums. Traditionally, music is transmitted orally with styles varying between the social groups. Drums are of great importance, the royal drummers having enjoyed high status within the court of the mwami. Drummers usually play together in groups of seven or nine. The country has a growing p...

Rwanda's healthcare system is one of the most advanced in Africa. Almost everyone in the small African state has access to medical care thanks to a network of almost 50 district hospitals and some 200 health centers. And a general health insurance scheme means that most people can afford it, too. But some of the care provided is only possible together with international partners. Ben Franklin famously said, at the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, that "if we don't hang together, we shall surely hang separately." That lesson of "we're all in it together" wasn't lost on Rwanda. Rwanda - a small nation in central Africa - is one of the poorest and most underdeveloped nations in the world. Nearly 60 percent of Rwandans live below the national poverty line - and in Rwanda, with an average income of just $560 per year per family - less than $2 a day - being in poverty meant bringing home and living on as little as ten cents a day. From 1990 to 1994 - the nation had a civil war - and in April of 1994 - the Rwandan Genocide began - lasting for 3 months - and taking the lives of nearly 1 million Rwandans. And yet - despite going through a civil war and a genoc...
The public health transformation in Rwanda is striking for those with memories of the massacre of nearly one million people 20 years ago. International aid groups were initially wary about getting involved, but Rwanda took ownership of its own development and built a new health care system. Special correspondent Fred de Sam Lazaro explores how they've worked to overcome a shortage of doctors.
More than two billion people lack adequate access to essential medical products, often due to challenging terrain and gaps in infrastructure. Because of this, over 2.9 million children under age five die every year. And up to 150,000 pregnancy-related deaths could be avoided each year if mothers had reliable access to safe blood. Through a partnership with the Government of Rwanda, Zipline will deliver all blood products for twenty hospitals and health centers starting this summer, improving access to healthcare for millions of Rwandans. Tourism is Rwanda’s largest forex earner. Rwanda is home to the Virunga mountain gorillas, which make up nearly half of the world’s about 700 remaining mountain gorilla's. However, there is much more to tourism in Reanda than just the gorillas. The government plans to restore a National Park that was on the verge of complete ruin because of the 1994 Genocide and the insecurity and subsequent lack of visitors that followed.
