Wurgwitz is a district of the Saxon city Freital in Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district.

  • Kohlsdorf

History[edit]

Wurgwitz was first mentioned at 31 March 1206 together with Dresden, Freital-Potschappel and other villages and towns. Since then, the names of Wurgwitz, Niederhermsdorf and Kohlsdorf repeatedly changed:

Wurgwitz:

  • 1206–1302: Hermannu de Worganewiz
  • 1303–1307: miles Henricus de Woganewytz
  • 1308–1377: Heynrich von Wrganuwicz
  • 1378–1314th century: Worganwicz / Worgenewicz
  • 14th century–1444: Georganuwicz
  • 1445–1460: Worgewicz
  • 1461–1416th century: Wurgenwicz
  • 16th century–1647: Worgwit
  • 1648–1790: Wurgewitz
  • since 1791: Wurgwitz

Kohlsdorf:

  • 1450–1468: Colostorff
  • 1469: Kolßdorff
  • 1470–1484: Quolsdorff
  • 1485–1513: Coelßdorff
  • 1514–1586: Colßdorff
  • 1587–around 1599: Kuelßdorf
  • around 1600–1615: Kösldorf
  • 1616–1790: zu Culßdorff
  • since 1791: Kohlsdorf

Niederhermsdorf

  • 1350–1380: Hermannsdorf
  • 1381–1444: Nydern Hermannsdorf
  • 1445–1460: Nidder Hermestorf
  • 1461–1678: Hermstorff
  • 1679–1763: Niederhernsdorff
  • since 1764: Niederhermsdorf

On 7 July 1921 merged the three villages together and formed the village Wurgwitz now, 53 years still remained independent until Wurgwitz in 1974 from Freital incorporated.
