Mitchell and Cotchin get their 2012 Brownlows

Sam Mitchell and Trent Cotchin are presented with their Brownlow Medals after more than four years in a special ceremony in Melbourne.

The AFL Commission decided that the matter would be heard by a sub-committee including chairman Mike Fitzpatrick and commission members Jason Ball and Paul Bassatt.

The hearing had been due to take place at Tuesday's commission meeting - which coincided with the presentation of Brownlow medals to Sam Mitchell and Trent Cotchin.

However Fairfax Media reported late last week that the meeting had been delayed.

The Giants will face the panel in the wake of  suspensions handed down to GWS midfielder Whitfield, and former Giants officials Graeme Allan and Craig Lambert for their roles in helping Whitfield hide from drug testers in 2015.

Whitfield was banned for six months, while Allan and Lambert were both banned for a year. Both men had left the Giants when the scandal emerged. Lambert remains employed - albeit absent for a year - at the Brisbane Lions, but Allan resigned from his position as Collingwood football department chief last month.
