Pamela may refer to:
Les Vampires is a 1915–16 French silent crime serial film written and directed by Louis Feuillade. Set in Paris, it stars Édouard Mathé, Musidora and Marcel Lévesque. The main characters are a journalist and his friend who become involved in trying to uncover and stop a bizarre underground Apache gang, known as The Vampires (who are not the mythological beings their name suggests). The serial consists of ten episodes, which vary greatly in length. Being roughly 7 hours long, it is considered one of the longest films ever made. It was produced and distributed by Feuillade's company Gaumont. Due to its stylistic similarities with Feuillade's other crime serials Fantômas and Judex, the three are often considered a trilogy.
Fresh from the success of Feuillade's previous serial, Fantômas, and facing competition from rival company Pathé, Feuillade made the film quickly and inexpensively with very little written script. Upon its initial release Les Vampires was given negative reviews by critics for its dubious morality and its lack of cinematic techniques compared to other films. However, it was a massive success with its wartime audience, making Musidora a star of French cinema. The film has since come under re-evaluation and is considered by many to be Feuillade's magnum opus and a cinematic masterpiece. It is recognised for developing thriller techniques, adopted by Alfred Hitchcock and Fritz Lang, and avant-garde cinema, inspiring Luis Buñuel and others. It is included in the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die.
Bloody Island may refer to:
The Vampires of Bloody Island is a 2009 British comedy horror film directed by Allin Kempthorne and starring his wife Pamela Kempthorne who had previously appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Shaun of the Dead. The film also starred Oliver Gray, John Snelling and Leon Hamilton. The film was released in the UK at the cinema in August 2009. It was released on DVD in January 2010 several weeks ahead of its planned February release date due to an email campaign organised by fans of the film. It was released on DVD in the US in June 2010.
The Vampires of Bloody Island features music from the bands Inkubus Sukkubus, Vampire Division, Fever, Theatres des Vampires, The Suburban Vamps and Corpse Nocturna. The title song is Place of the Dead by Vampire Division, which reached number one in the Goth Soundclick charts.
In her castle on an isolated Cornish island, vampire noblewoman Morticia de'Ath (Pamela Kempthorne) and her zombie henchman, Grunt (Leon Hamilton), work with alchemist Dr. N. Sane (John Snelling) to discover a cure to grant vampires immunity to sunlight. Caught up in her plans are two bickering office workers Kevin Smallcock and Susan Swallows, and old world vampire hunter Professor Van Rental.
The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a carnivorous bear whose native range lies largely within the Arctic Circle, encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is a large bear, approximately the same size as the omnivorous Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi). A boar (adult male) weighs around 350–700 kg (772–1,543 lb), while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. Although it is the sister species of the brown bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological niche, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting seals, which make up most of its diet. Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their time on the sea ice. Their scientific name means "maritime bear", and derives from this fact. Polar bears hunt their preferred food of seals from the edge of sea ice, often living off fat reserves when no sea ice is present. Because of their dependence on the sea ice, polar bears are classified as marine mammals.
