Winter has been crap with a capital crap and a side order of crap. This is like a BAEN cover of a cat person curled up in the lap of a giant large breasted amazon on a sunny beach illuminated by four suns, with multiple tings coming off the ice cubes of a tray full of tiki drinks. Volcano and dinosaurs optional.
You know, as a kid I actually believed that “Corgi Books” and “Corgi” toy cars were made in the same factory…
Can you imagine my disappointment when I opened all the Corgi books in the shop, and found no free toy inside?
@anon – Yeah the database was incredibly corrupted and I’ve really only patched things. There’s a possibility that the page titles thing may never work again. I’m going to take a look at it later this week.
I feel having mysql(database) on my CV has finally been justified over the past couple of weeks! ๐
No! Is it… is it… REAL? *touches screen gently* I.. I refuse to believe…it’s another trick! I know it is! *wipes tears from screen* Oh, GSS… welcome back boyo!
(I know nothing about SQL…but would someone who has a fair bit of spare time at the moment and finds repetitive data entry oddly soothing be of any use to you?)
I was afraid we would never see GSS again…until one of our Regular Commentators (with more computer skill than I) teamed up with some entrepreneurial chinese to bring us “Agreeable Man Appearance-Spectacle”…!
@GSS Admin: Having been depraved of the goodies for so long, I’ve been reading and commenting the older posts. The result is me flooding the Recent Comments boxes.
Any chance of getting pages with more of comment histories to get links to everyone else’s recent comments too?
I’d like to point out that, of the covers we’ve had since the Great GSS Revival, three have ended up in the Top 10. This bodes well (or, perhaps, poorly) for the future. ๐

@admin: the posts prior to the last one, that is, the GSS Migration post, all list only a single comment.
Although, since the comments themselves are all intact, maybe it’s for the best not to touch?
March 21st, 2015 at 1:14 am
@DSWBT – Yeah…. it’ll do that. When someone makes a comment on the post it will update the counter to the correct value.
It’s hard to update automatically unfortunately.

Everything is different, but the same… things are more moderner than before… bigger, and yet smaller… it’s computers… GSS rules!

Atomic batteries to power. Turbines to speed. Roger. Ready to move out!

GSSuup!
Oh, none of the date/book title URLs seem to work.
And I suppose it would be nice if the page titles contained the book title/header.

Hey, the site is back! I honestly thought at this point that if/when it ever reemerged it would be as a tumblr or something. Good show sir, good show!

@StevieT: Agreeable Man Appearance-Spectacle. That’ll be ยฃ1.

@Jen … that depends how eager you are to go through about 8000 lines of text doing corrections? ๐
I need to do a bit of further investigation to see what exactly needs done. Some of it I should be able to automate ok. We will see!
@Dead Stuff with Big Teeth – I may have had too much wine, if that’s possible, but that video…

@ Dead Stuff @ 23:
That was astoundingly disturbing on SO many levels.
Kudos!
