The win sets up an enticing match between Bai and Sara Tomic, the 18-year-old sister of Australian men's star and world No. 26 Bernard Tomic.
"I think obviously getting the win today under my belt probably settled the nerves," Bai said.
"Now I can hopefully swing into the tournament and get a good year going."
The winner of the tournament will be granted a wildcard spot at the Australian Open beginning on January 16.
