It's all very well if you are a celebrity with a hair stylist on hand who can change your hair colour on a whim, but how wearable is the colour of the moment, rose gold? The pretty hue has stuck around, Cara Delevingne, Kylie Jenner, Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller and Blake Lively all embracing it over the past few years. And coming into festival season the hair trend is still filling up our Instagram feed on a regular basis.
Rose gold sits between blonde and pink on the hair colour spectrum and is just plain pretty. If you are platinum blonde and thinking of transitioning back to a darker shade this is the perfect interim colour.
We asked hair colour supremo Damien Rayner for the lowdown on getting this colour right.
Colour coding
How it works "Rose gold works brilliantly on pre-lightened hair like platinum blonde, balayage (where blonde dye is hand painted on to the hair to create a graduated effect) and highlights. The process is very simple and can happen at the end of your blonding colour appointment as it's similar to a colour refreshing or toning treatment."
Downtime "It takes an extra 30 minutes at the end of the colouring process and will eventually fade out."
Who does it suit? "Rose gold is great for everyone as it can be adjusted to suit any skin tone. You can go from cotton candy pinky to a much warmer rose with a slight tweak of the formulation."
Maintenance As with all coloured hair, maintenance is a key factor. Try a sulphate free shampoo to help preserve the colour as it won't strip the hair. Book monthly visits with your colourist to have the rose gold tones topped up. Or maintain the colour at home with a pastel toner.
If you want to play around with temporary colour, try Kevin.Murphy's Color.Bug that you can just wipe on, wipe off. Works best applied after your styling hair product to make it stick.
