Hundreds of truckies and travellers began moving again on Monday evening after an out-of-control bushfire forced the closure of Eyre Highway for a second time in a week, leaving many stranded.
The highway reopened after the threat of the fire was reduced to an alert, allowing police to reopen a 200 kilometre stretch of road between Eucla and the Nullarbor Roadhouse at the border of WA and South Australia.
Nullarbor Roadhouse manager Ross West said about 15 trucks and 50 caravans were stopped at the roadblock.
"We have quite a few people here," he said.
"From here, if they're going west, police have the whole road blocked off so they can't go any further.
"If you have a bit of a look out you can see the haze in the distance, the fire is about 150 kilometres west of us."
The fire has been burning since Sunday afternoon.
On Wednesday, hundreds or travellers were stranded west of Monday's fire near Cocklebiddy as a 170 kilometre stretch of the Eyre Highway was blocked off for around three hours.
The Cocklebiddy fire continues to burn but its threat has been reduced to an advice level, since it was sparked by lightning on December 3.
