At 10am Thursday, Severe Tropical Cyclone Nathan (Cat 3) was 270km ENE of Cooktown and 245km east of Cape Flattery, moving W/NW at 11km/h.
Severe TC Nathan is likely to continue towards the coast reaching Category 4 strength before crossing the coast between Cape Melville and Cooktown early on Friday morning.
A Tropical Cyclone WARNING is current between Lockhart River and Port Douglas, extending inland to Laura and Palmerville.
...VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds (260km/h) could develop between Cape Melville and Cooktown early on Friday.
GALES with gusts to 120km/h may develop between Lockhart River and Port Douglas late this afternoon, extending inland to areas such as Palmerville and Laura on Friday morning.
Tropical Cyclone Nathan is finally set to make landfall on the north Queensland coast early on Friday, after getting close last Friday.
Nathan originally developed as a tropical low on the 9th of March, before intensifying into a tropical cyclone later on the day.
Ever since then Nathan has seemingly been exploring the Coral Sea. After originally moving west and getting close to north Queensland Coast, he barely moved for a day before changing his mind again and moving away f...rom the coast.
For a couple of days, it seemed likely that Nathan would then move towards New Caledonia, leaving Australia behind. However, he had another trick up his sleeve, taking a more southerly path before finally tending westwards back towards the QLD coast.
With the exception of another change of mind, it now seems likely Nathan will cross the QLD coast early on Friday morning, between Cape Melville and Cairns.

At 3pm WST, Severe Tropical Cyclone Olwyn (category 3) was approximately 25 kilometres west of Carnarvon and 95 kilometres north of Denham, moving South at 25km/h.
The centre of Severe Tropical Cyclone Olwyn is tracking very close to the coast as it passes just to the west of Carnarvon. The system is expected to remain a severe tropical cyclone before slowly weakening during this afternoon. As it moves southwards it is expected to take heavy rain and squally winds into southern parts of Western Australia.
This video shows the projected path as Olwyn heads down the WA coast towards Perth. It is estimate to reach Perth just before lunch tomorrow WST.
