‘Only in Australia’: Kids' cricket match in Mandurah held up by dugite

Halls Head Junior Cricket Club's match in Meadow Springs took an unexpected turn on Saturday morning with the introduction of a new player.

In true Aussie spirit, the kids kept their cool as the deadly dugite, one of the world's most venomous snakes, held up play by slithering from one side of the field to the other - perhaps unsure which team to pick.

Kids' cricket game held up by dugite

Clinton Joynes filmed a snake which slithered from one side of the cricket pitch to the other.

Dugites have been getting around in WA as summer has arrived, spotted at train stations, beaches, backyards, ponds, bush tracks and cycle paths

If you spot a snake that looks far from home, contact a handler such as Perth Hills Reptile Removals or the WildCare Helpline on 9474 9055 so that it can be relocated safely.
