Mozart's House

"Mozart's House" is a song by British electronic group Clean Bandit. The song was released on 29 March 2013 as the second single from their debut album, New Eyes. The song peaked at number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. The song includes part of the String Quartet No. 21 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Music video

A music video to accompany the release of "Mozart's House" was first released onto YouTube on 15 October 2010 at a total length of four minutes and four seconds. The video features clips of the vocalist Ssegawa Ssekintu singing in various locations, along with a clip of cellist Grace Chatto in her underwear, holding a violin across her chest. Grace Chatto held a position teaching cello at a school when the release took place, and her appearance half naked caused her to be laid off, following the complaint by a parent signaling this was indecent.

The video was filmed predominately in Moscow, Russia with some scenes filmed in London near Docklands Light Railway stations. Long sections of the video were filmed in slow motion then sped up to sync in with normal speed, which gave the video a unique feel and effect.

Clean Bandit

Clean Bandit is an English electronic group founded in Cambridge, England, in 2009. The group consists of Jack Patterson, Luke Patterson, Grace Chatto, and Neil Amin-Smith.

Their 2010 single "Mozart's House", released on Black Butter Records, reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. In January 2014, they scored their first UK Singles Chart-topping single with "Rather Be", a collaboration with Jess Glynne, featuring elements of both classical and dance music. "Rather Be" remained at the top of the chart for four weeks. In 2014, they achieved their first US Top 10 single with "Rather Be" peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group had its largest performance in summer of 2015 in Baku, Azerbaijan, at the closing ceremony of 2015 European Games, which had over 68,000 attendances.

In 2015, "Rather Be" won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

History

2006–12: formation and career beginnings

Band members Jack Patterson, Grace Chatto, and Neil Amin-Smith met while studying as undergraduates at Jesus College, University of Cambridge. At the time, Amin-Smith was leading a string quartet together with Chatto, who both attended Westminster School.

New Eyes

New Eyes is the debut studio album by English electronic music group Clean Bandit. It was released on 30 May 2014 through Warner Music Group and Atlantic Records, after suffering from setbacks. The album includes the singles "A+E", "Mozart's House", "Dust Clears", "Rather Be", "Extraordinary" and "Come Over". New Eyes was produced entirely by Jack Patterson and Grace Chatto, members of Clean Bandit. The album peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for shipments of 100,000 copies.

Background and release

The album was named after Noailles, a neighbourhood of Marseille in France where band members Jack Patterson and Grace Chatto regularly visit on holiday.

Singles

The album's lead single, "A+E", was released on 7 December 2012 and features vocals from Kandaka Moore and Nikki Cislyn. It was their first appearance on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 100. "Mozart's House" was re-released on 29 March 2013 as the album's second single. The track includes part of the String Quartet No. 21 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The third single, "Dust Clears" was released on 19 July 2013, featuring vocals from Noonie Bao.

House

A house is a building that functions as a home, ranging from simple dwellings such as rudimentary huts of nomadic tribes and the improvised shacks in shantytowns to complex, fixed structures of wood, brick, marble or other materials containing plumbing, ventilation and electrical systems. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (German: [ˈvɔlfɡaŋ amaˈdeːʊs ˈmoːtsaʁt], English see fn.; 27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791), baptised as Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. Born in Salzburg, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty.

At 17, Mozart was engaged as a musician at the Salzburg court, but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of his death. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized. He was survived by his wife Constanze and two sons.
